Golden Eagle Softball Swept in Aberdeen

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Golden Eagles were in Aberdeen for today's double header against Northern State University. It was close, but the Golden Eagles suffered a sweep at the hands of the Wolves.

Game one was a 4-3 loss, dropping the Golden Eagles to a 20-31 record on the year. Despite having multiple different leads. It started off with a Jocelyn Hernandez (Fr., OF, Tracy, Calif.) single that brought Bryanna Decker (Fr., C/OF, Roseville, Calif.) home, the Golden Eagles had the first lead in the top of the second. That lead wouldn't last long, however, as Brooke Wolf tied things up at the bottom of the second inning.

The Golden Eagles earned back their lead with two runs in the top of the fifth, thanks to an Irelyn Spencer (R-So., IF, Rapid City, S.D.) single that sent Riley Blake (Fr., P/OF, Las Vegas, Nev.) in for a score. Haley Koch (Sr., C, Mondamin, Iowa) hit a sacrifice fly, enabling Whitnee Curry (Sr., MIF/OF, Lincoln, Neb.) to earn the score. The Golden Eagles took this lead and held onto it until the 7th. The Wolves brought themselves within one thanks to an Aune Boben run, and they would hit the walkoff double with Tevan Bryant bringing two home.

Game two was a different story, same result. In the bottom of the third, Taven Bryant brought Aune Boben home to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Wolves brought in two more runners to take a 3-0 lead, and the Golden Eagles were looking to dig themselves out of a hole.

In the fifth inning, the Golden Eagles made things a little tight for the Wolves as Whitnee Curry scored on a passed ball. Immediately following that score, Haley Koch singled through the right side and Rayna French (So., C, La Salle, Manitoba) came home to bring the Golden Eagles within one.

The Wolves shut the Golden Eagles down the rest of the way to earn the win, but it's not all bad news for the Golden Eagles. All the Golden Eagles need now is one win tomorrow and two Sioux Falls losses to clinch an NSIC Tournament appearance.

The Golden Eagles return tomorrow at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. against Minnesota State University, Moorhead in Moorhead, Minnesota.
