Sioux Falls, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls pitching staff held the Golden Eagle offense at bay on Friday afternoon in a doubleheader, holding the maroon and gold to just two runs through 14 innings, sweeping the maroon and gold.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 13-22 (1-7 NSIC).
Game One
USF and the Golden Eagles would go scoreless in the first inning, but the Cougars would strike for a run in the bottom of the second, scoring a run on an infield single.
USF would answer again in the fourth with another run, using a sacrifice fly to double their lead.
The big inning would come in the fifth inning, when USF would score three runs, using an error to help them score their three runs. That would be all the runs the Cougars would need, cruising to the 5-0 win.
Minnesota Crookston was only able to collect one hit, which came off the bat of
Jocelyn Hernandez (Fr., OF, Tracy, Calif.).
Delaney Penner (Fr., P, Winkler, Manitoba) was solid in the circle, albeit in a losing effort. The freshman gave up three earned runs on eight hits.
Game two
Game two would see more offense, but the Cougars would be the beneficiaries of early offense, jumping out to a 4-0 lead through three innings.
Minnesota Crookston would break through in the fourth inning, as
Whitnee Curry (Sr., IF, Lincoln, Neb.) would score on a wild pitch, cutting the lead to 4-1.
USF would answer back with a four run fifth inning, taking a seven run lead into the late innings.
Minnesota Crookston would get a run back in the sixth, as
Irelyn Spencer (R-So., UT, Rapid City, S.D.) would single in
Chayse Doering (Fr., OF, Shakopee, Minn.), cutting the lead to six.
That would be the last scoring either team would do, as the Golden Eagles would fall by a touchdown, 8-2.
Minnesota Crookston finished with one hit in the game, as five different hitters finished with a hit.

Charlotte Dombrowski (Jr., P/OF, Valparaiso, Ind.) picked up the loss after giving up four earned runs in 2.2 innings of work.
