Minnesota State Stymies Golden Eagle Bats in Sweep in NSIC Doubleheader

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston softball pitched well against Minnesota State, but were only able to collect four hits in 14 innings, as they were swept by the Mavericks, 5-1 and 6-0.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 13-24 (1-9 NSIC).

Game One
The Mavericks would strike first for a run in the top half of the inning and then would score another run in the third on a solo home run.

MSU would take a 5-0 lead, but the Golden Eagles would try to chip away.

Madisen Yandle (Fr., SS, Lakeville, Minn.) would single with one out in the bottom of the fifth. Two batters later, she would score on an RBI double from Haley Koch (Sr., C, Mondamin, Iowa). Koch would be stuck at second as one run would be all the Golden Eagles could get in the fifth.

That 5-1 score would be the final score.

The Golden Eagles finished with three hits. Koch, Yandle and Emilee Haggadone (Jr., C, Lincoln, Neb.) would each get a hit in the game.

Delaney Penner (Fr., P, Winkler, Manitoba) picked up the loss in the circle, going 3.2 innings of work, giving up just two hits and two earned runs. Penner struck out six Mavericks, one shy of her career high.

Game Two
Game two would see a slow offensive start for both teams.

The Mavericks would finally break through in the third inning, scoring a pair of runs.

The game would continue to be just a two run affair, but the Mavericks would strike for two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings for the six-run win.

Rayna French (So., C/OF, La Salle, Manitoba) picked up the lone hit in the game for the Golden Eagles.

Evie Stuck was solid in the circle, giving up four earned runs and eight hits in 5.1 innings of work.

What's Next
Minnesota Crookston will head to Winona State tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader with the Warriors. The Golden Eagles will be the home team for both games.
