Brookings, S.D. - The Golden Eagles have lost their first game of the 2025-26 season. It was a hard fought battle, but the Jackrabbits managed to pull away in the third period. In net for the Golden Eagles was Adam Goody (Jr., G, Airdrie, Alberta) who entered today with a 2-0-0 record along with a 1.50 goals against average and a .935 save percentage. Addison Ronning took the net for the Jackrabbits and entered with a 3-0-0 record, a .67 goals against average and a .978 save percentage.

The opening period was a more action packed first 20 minutes than last night's game. Four goals in total were scored, all in the final six minutes. With six minutes on the clock, Dalston Kelly (Jr., F, Minto, N.D.) broke the ice and gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. His goal was assisted by Ben Hines (Jr., F, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) and Brandon Kelly (Jr., F/D, Minto, N.D.) but that lead faded quickly. Just over a minute later, Riley Linstad tied the game up for the Jackrabbits. Only two and a half minutes later and the Golden Eagles were back in front, Jackson Dodds (5th, F, Watford City, N.D.) with assists from Logan Syrup (5th, F, Park River, N.D.) and Tyler Lorenz (So., D, Shakopee, Minn.) but that was not it for the first period. 18 seconds after the Golden Eagles reclaimed the lead, Mason Schramm tied the game at two, and that was how we would head to the middle frame.

The second period scoring opened much quicker than the first, with the Jackrabbits claiming their first lead of the game with a goal from Trent Anfinson. This time around, however, it was the Golden Eagles who had a quick response. Just three and a half minutes went by before Alexander Bailey (5th, D, Crosby, N.D.) netted his second of the season, Logan Syrup and Jackson Dodds (5th, F, Watford City, N.D.) assisted on the goal. Those were the only goals of the second period. Through two, Ronning had saved 33 of the 36 shots he had faced, and Goody had made 25 saves on 28 shots.

The third period is where things slipped away from the Golden Eagles, and it did not take long for the Jackrabbits to score what would stand to be the game winner. Just 49 seconds into the third, Dawson Wirth put the Jackrabbits ahead. Five minutes later, Dawson Wirth made it a two goal game, and the Golden Eagles were unable to recover. It was a 5-3 loss for the Golden Eagles, dropping their record to 5-1-0 on the season.

The Golden Eagles will have next weekend off, before the daunting task of welcoming the University of St. Thomas to Crookston. The Golden Eagles will look to take the next 13 days to regroup and bounce back for what should be an intense, physical and hard fought battle between two of the WCCHA's best teams.
