Crookston, Minn. – North Dakota scored the first goal of the night on Friday at the Crookston Sports Center just 50 seconds into the game. Minnesota Crookston answered in a big way and scored 10 consecutive goals to cruise to a 12-2 WCCHA win over the Fighting Hawks.
Minnesota Crookston moves to 3-0 on the season.
Drew Krekelberg would strike to open up the scoring for the Fighting Hawks, but
Fox Dodds (Sr., F, Watford City, Wis.) would answer two minutes later.
The score would stay tied at one until
Braden Van de Kraats (So., D/F, Medicine Hat, Alberta) would score his first goal in a Golden Eagle uniform for a 2-1 lead.
Minnesota Crookston would then score a pair of goals just 10 seconds apart with goals from
Logan Syrup (Sr., F, Park River, N.D.) and
Mason Romfo (So., F, Langdon, N.D.) to head into the first intermission with a three goal advantage.
The Golden Eagles would then score a touchdown in the second period and score six goals within the first 15 minutes of the second period, including
Fox Dodds collecting a hat trick with a pair of goals in that middle frame.
With the game all but decided, UND would pot one with a little more than eight minutes remaining in the game and
Anthony Foster (So., F, Warroad, Minn.) would score his second of the night and
Alexander Bailey (Sr., D, Crosby, N.D.) would score to make the score 12-2, which would be the final.
Minnesota Crookston had eight skaters with two or more points in the game, led by
Fox Dodds, who finished with five points and Syrup, who finished with four points with a goal and three assists.
Tyler Swanson (So., G, West Fargo, N.D.) wasn't very busy on the day, finishing with six saves on the day.
Minnesota Crookston outshot the Fighting Hawks 84-8.
The Golden Eagles will look for their second straight sweep to start the season against the Fighting Hawks tomorrow for a 2 PM puck drop.
