FELTON, Del. - The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian team commenced their 2024-25 NCEA schedule Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28 against Delaware State University and the University of South Carolina. The meets took place at Dovington Training Center in Felton, Del.
The Golden Eagles put up a strong showing against No. 7 University of South Carolina, falling just 10-6. The score marked Minnesota Crookston's best showing in an NCEA meet, as they continue to improve and gain in competitiveness. In Fences, the Golden Eagles picked up an 83-80 win from Taylor Kogen (Fr., Deerfield, Ill.) on Patton. Alexandra Wentland (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned a 79-70 victory over Bella Primavera on Red.
In Flat, Belle Syrett (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba) posted a 70 for the Golden Eagles on Carl. Minnesota Crookston earned two wins in Horsemanship. Hailey Hanson (Fr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) defeated Alyssa Jipping, 74-70.5 on Maverick. Emma Mutnansky (Fr., Cass Lake, Minn.) earned a 73.5-72.5 victory over Ruby Voortmeyer on Brady.
In Reining, Marley Halse (So., Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) earned a 68.5-68.0 win on Cricket. Madison Wojcek (So., Bremerton, Wash.) earned Most Outstanding Performance in Reining with a 70.5-70 win over Chloe VanStone on Finn.
The Golden Eagles had strong rides against the Hornets, as well, but fell 15-4 to Delaware State. Minnesota Crookston's best showing came in Fences. Wentland earned an 82-79 victory over Lauren Dumeah on Geo. Syrett picked up a 72-40 win on Polo, while Kaylynn Berry (Fr., Louisville, Ky.) took an 83-80 victory over Chloey Prichard on Cici.
In Flat, the Golden Eagles looked to Kogen with a 72, and Avery Crook (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) with a 73. In Horsemanship, Wojcek took a 76.5-71 win over Aniela Cortina on Ellie Mae.
In Reining, Minnesota Crookston had three close rides come up just short. They were led by a 70.5 from Madison Wachtel (So., Wells, Nev.).
The Golden Eagles next NCEA competition will be November 1 against UC-Davis in Brookings, S.D.
