Box Score 2 Sioux Center, Iowa – After a wild day one, which saw the Golden Eagles softball team earn a split with Mount Marty University, Minnesota Crookston was looking to end their trip to Iowa with a couple of wins over Dakota Wesleyan.
The Golden Eagles would score seven unanswered runs in game one, earning the 7-2 victory.
In game two, the Tigers would hit a grand slam in the fifth inning, catapulting DWU to a 7-4 win, earning the split.
Minnesota Crookston is 2-2 on the season.
Game One
Much like yesterday, it was a slow start for the Golden Eagles. DWU would strike for a pair of runs in the first, taking a 2-0 lead.
The bats for both teams would be silent in the middle innings, as the game would stay 2-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning.
One of the most experienced Golden Eagles,
Shaelyn Grant (Sr., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.) would knot the game up with her second home run in as many days, this one a two run home run.
The game would stay tied heading into the top of the sixth, but the Golden Eagles would take the lead for good with a steal of second from
Ruth Freiberg (So., OF, Hopkins, Minn.), allowing
Sophie Juntunen (So., 1B/OF, St. Michael, Minn.) to score from third.
The Golden Eagles would add on in a giant way in the top of the seventh. Grant would drive in two more runs with a triple to center field. Grant would come into score a batter later on a
Haley Koch (Jr., C, Mondamin, Iowa) RBI single. Koch would later come around and score on an RBI groundout from Freiberg.
The Tigers would go down in the bottom of the seventh.
Seven of the nine Golden Eagles in the lineup had a hit in game one, including Grant, who went 3-4.
Whitnee Curry (Jr., MIF/OF, Lincoln, Neb.),
Rayna French (Fr., C, La Salle, Manitoba) and Juntunen each had a pair of hits. It's the third straight two-hit game for French to start her Golden Eagle career.
Evie Stuck (Jr., P, Papillion, Neb.) earned the start and went two innings, while giving up five hits, allowing a pair of runs.
Sydney Eggers (Fr., P, Sylvania, Ohio) and
Alexa Guilford (So., P, Crystal City, Manitoba) combined for five shutout innings, giving up just four hits.
Game Two
Minnesota Crookston would jump out to a fast start, as
Emerson Thompson (R-So., C, Lincoln, Neb.) drove in Grant for the first lead of the game.
The Tigers would tie things up at one, but the maroon and gold would come storming back with Grant's third home run in as many games and Emily Haggadone (So., C, Loncoln, Neb.) would drive in a run.
DWU would score the next six games to win game two, 7-4.
Minnesota Crookston had 11 hits, including two apiece from two different players;
Charlotte Dombrowski (So., P/OF, Valparaiso, Ind.),
Brittney Mengel (Jr., OF, Sullivan, Wis.), French and Grant.
Dombrowski also went five innings in the circle and gave up eight hits and five earned runs.

The Golden Eagles will have a week off before heading to play five games at the Washburn Invite in Topeka, Kan., starting on Feb. 23.
