BROOKINGS, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian team competed in a pair of NCEA meets Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2 at DeHaan Equestrian Center in Brookings, S.D.
The Golden Eagles fell 12-4 to South Dakota State University, and 11-5 to University of California-Davis.
Against UC-Davis, Minnesota Crookston picked up two points in Fences. Alexandra Wentland (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) upended Natalie Watson 74-70 on Joey. Kaylynn Berry (Fr., Louisville, Ky.) also picked up a point with a 76-72 win over Emma Jolly on Nora. Belle Syrett (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba) was slightly edged 55-54 by Lauren Kolbe on Mambo.
In the Flat competition, Syrett was again just slightly edged by Jolly 64-63. Wentland fell 59-57 to Maggie Franke on Harrison.
The Golden Eagles added two points in Horsemanship. Madison Wojcek defeated Natasha Replogle 72.5-70.5 on Knight. Ava Jo Glenn (So., Ennis, Texas) earned a point with a 70.5-63.5 victory over Maddie Gregory on Chili. Hailey Hanson (Fr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) was defeated slightly 75.5-70.5 by Kylie Jacobson on Ranger.
In Reining, Hanson earned a 70.5-67.5 victory over Mya Clader on Flicka. Samantha Lyons (Fr., Lisbon, N.D.) and Madison Wojcek (So., Bremerton, Wash.) also put together solid scores, but narrowly lost their point.
In the meet with the Jackrabbits, Minnesota Crookston picked up a point in Flat. Syrett defeated Sierra Elliott 72-70 on Enrique to earn the Most Outstanding Performance in Flat. Avery Crook (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) and Berry also had competitive rides but narrowly missed winning their point.
In Fences, Syrett scored a 75 but was defeated in her competition. The Golden Eagles earned two points in Horsemanship. Wojcek upended Paige Wellendorf 75-74.5 on Knight, while Hanson edged Brighton McBride 71-70.5 on Marshal. Glenn and Emma Mutnansky (Fr., Cass Lake, Minn.) also had close matches, but narrowly fell.
In Reining, Lyons upended Lillie Wallis 68.5-68 on Aggie. Madison Wachtel (So., Wells, Nev.), Hanson, and Wojcek all had strong rides but edged for their points.
The Golden Eagles will next compete in an NCEA meet January 23 and 24 against Delaware State and Fresno State University in Fresno, Calif.
