MINOT, N.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team won three-straight sets Saturday, October 26 to pick up a 3-1 (26-28, 25-20, 25-19, 25-17) victory over Minot State University at the Minot State Dome in Minot, N.D.
The Golden Eagles have won three of their last four matches in the always difficult NSIC. Minnesota Crookston sits at 6-13 (3-8 NSIC) after Saturday's win. The Golden Eagles have posted their most wins since winning seven matches in 2017. Minot State dropped to 1-19 (0-13 NSIC) with the loss. Minnesota Crookston picks up the weekend sweep after defeating UMary Friday.
Team Stats
The Golden Eagles hit .156, with 62 kills, and 30 errors Saturday. They notched seven service aces, 10 block assists, and one solo block. Minot State hit .101 in Saturday's match.
Leaders
Madison Carsten (So., OH, Wadena, Minn.) paced the Golden Eagles Saturday with 18 kills and a .196 hitting percentage. Carsten had a double-double with 18 digs. Emma Malek (So., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) added 14 kills, and hit .250. Malek notched two block assists. Maya Jones (So., RS, New Braunfels, Texas) finished with 14 kills, and hit .267, and had two block assists. Carizma Muth (R-Fr., OH. Randolph, Wis.) finished with nine kills.
Baily Teveldal (Fr., S, Baltic, S.D.) guided the Golden Eagle offense with 52 assists. Defensively, Kailee Waasdorp (So., Lib., West Fargo, N.D.) notched a team-high 22 digs. Teveldal chipped in three block assists, and 16 digs.
Set One
Minot State took an early 4-1 lead in the first set following a Faith Di Mola kill. The Golden Eagles were able to take a 10-9 advantage following a Madelynn Boop attack error. The two teams continued to trade points. Minnesota Crookston took a 26-25 lead after a Carizma Muth kill. However, the Beavers won the final three points to earn the first set win 28-26.
Set Two
Minot State got out to an early 7-3 lead in the second set after a Paulina Kowalska kill. Minnesota Crookston outscored the Beavers 9-1 in the next 10 points, taking a 12-8 advantage on an Emma Malek kill. The Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 15-10 following a Muth service ace. Minot State closed to within 20-19 after a Bailee Brommenschenkel kill. The Golden Eagles took five of the next six points to win the second set 25-20.
Set Three
Minnesota Crookston took a 3-0 lead off a Malek kill. Minot State overtook the Golden Eagles 6-5 after a Di Mola kill. Minnesota Crookston took four of the next five points, taking the 9-6 lead on a Lexi Scharold kill. Minot State tied the set 13-13 on a Malek attack error. The Golden Eagles put up a rally to take the 18-14 lead after a Di Mola attack error. Minnesota Crookston went on to win the third set 25-19.
Set Four
Minot State jumped out to a 5-0 advantage after an Emily Barker service ace. The Golden Eagles posted a 9-0 rally to overtake the Beavers 9-5 on a Baily Teveldal kill. Minnesota Crookston took the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.
