Golden Eagle Softball Drops Doubleheader at Upper Iowa

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Fayette, Iowa – Minnesota Crookston softball was back on the road for the 30th and 31st straight games this afternoon at Upper Iowa.
 
In game one, Alina Avalos (Sr., IF, Riverside, Calif.) hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the seventh, but Taylor Sedam answered with a walk-off two-run home run with two outs for the 6-5 win. UIU would complete the sweep with an 8-2 win in game two.
 
Minnesota Crookston falls to 13-18 on the season and 1-5 in the NSIC.
 
Game One
The Golden Eagles and Peacocks would be scoreless through the first two innings.
 
In the top of the third, the Golden Eagles would break that scoreless tie. Dana Zarn (Sr., IF, Winnipeg, Manitoba) would double in Avalos for a 1-0 lead. Zarn would later come in to score on a Whitnee Curry (So., IF/OF, Lincoln, Neb.) for a 2-0 lead.
 
The Peacocks would finally get to Golden Eagle starter Thayda Houser (Jr., P, Seymour, Iowa) in the fifth, scoring a run.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, UIU would score three runs, taking a 4-2 lead.
 
The resilient Golden Eagles would try and stun the Peacock crowd. Charlotte Dombrowski (Fr., P/OF, Valparaiso, Ind.) and Paige Shwaluk (Jr., MIF, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba) would reach on infield singles and would score on the first pitch to Avalos, who sent the Golden Eagles into the lead with a three run blast.
 
In the seventh, the Golden Eagles would get two quick outs, but the Peacocks would walk-off the Golden Eagles with a home run for the one run victory.
 
The Golden Eagles finished with five hits, including Avalos, who also drove in three runs and scored a pair.
 
Houser was solid in the circle, giving up six earned runs on twelve hits, while striking out six. Houser fell to 6-3 on the year.
 
Game Two
Game two would see another early multi-run lead for the Golden Eagles.
 
Dombrowski would walk with the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, scoring Paige Shwaluk (Jr., OF, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba). Maddie Shwaluk would later single in a run, scoring Curry for a 2-0 lead.
 
That two-run inning was the last time the Golden Eagles would score.
 
UIU would score six runs in the fourth inning, which would propel them to the 8-2 victory.
 
Once again, Minnesota Crookston finished with five hits, including two hits from Reagan Emerick (R-So., MIF, Macomb, Ill.).
 
Evie Stuck (So., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) gave up eight runs, just four of which were earned, on ten hits, while going the distance.
 
What's Next
Minnesota Crookston will be back in action for a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon against Winona State.
