Mother Nature Causes Cougars and Golden Eagles to Finish Just One Game; USF Scores Four in Fifth for the Victory

4/29/2023 4:28:00 PM

Box Score
Crookston, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston was supposed to celebrate senior day on Saturday afternoon for their three seniors. Mother Nature had other plans. Minnesota Crookston and Sioux Falls were only able to finish five innings in the first game, enough for a completed game, with the Cougars winning that game, 4-1.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 16-31 (4-19 NSIC) on the season.

The five-inning game would start out with the first three innings being scoreless and both teams getting out of some jams.

The Golden Eagles would finally get on the board with a Dana Zarn (Sr., IF, Winnipeg, Manitoba) solo shot to center field, her team leading sixth on the year.

The Cougars would answer for four runs. Following that four run inning, there would be a brief 10-minute delay. Following that delay, the game would resume with the Golden Eagles going 1-2-3.

Due to hail, rain and field conditions, the game would be called a Cougars victory. Game two would be canceled as well.

Whitnee Curry (So., IF/OF, Lincoln, Neb.), Maddie Shwaluk (Jr., OF, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba), Gabriella Blomdahl (Sr., OF, Duluth, Minn.) and Zarn each finished with a hit in the shortened game.

Thayda Houser went the distance and gave up 10 hits and four earned runs, while striking out four Cougar hitters.

What's Next
The Golden Eagles will close out the 2023 season tomorrow afternoon against Southwest Minnesota State with the doubleheader starting at noon, from Crookston.
