CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston jumping seat equestrian team earned High Point Team honors Sunday at their home meet at the Charles H. Casey Equine Arena. The Golden Eagles had several stand-out performances throughout the two home events. Gabriella Siefkes (Jr., Aberdeen, S.D.) earned High Point Rider honors Saturday, while Kristen Borchert (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.) took Reserve High Point Rider. Sunday, Faith Retzlaff (So., Columbus, Wis.) was named Reserve High Point Rider.
The Golden Eagles have had a strong 2023-24 season. They had two High Point Team accolades at North Dakota State. Sunday marked their third out of six IHSA shows this season. Borchert earned her second Reserve High Point Rider honor, as did Retzlaff. Siefkes has two High Point Rider nods this season.
In Saturday's show, Siefkes led the way out of the gate for U of M Crookston taking first in Open Flat and Open Fences. Borchert followed suit by placing first in Intermediate Fences and Limit Flat.
In Intro Flat, Alexis Heatonv (Fr., Frazee, Minn.) placed second. Sophie Gustafson (Fr., Sleepy Eye, Minn.) had a nice ride to take second in Pre-Novice Flat. Juliana Gullo (So., Itasca, Ill.) finished second in Open Fences, while Zoe Waldron (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) took second in Novice Flat.
In Pre-Novice Flat, Christina Fiedler (So., Burtrum, Minn.) placed third Saturday. The Golden Eagles picked up fourth-place finishes from Alexandra Wentland (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Jane Droll (Fr., Highland Park, Ill.), and Retzlaff. Retzlaff and Delainey Lancaster (Sr., Watertown, S.D.) placed fifth, while Jada Schimke (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) had a sixth-place finish for Minnesota Crookston.
In Open Fences Sunday, Siefkes took fifth. She had a great ride in Open Flat to earn a first-place finish for the Golden Eagles.
In Limit Fences, Schimke placed fifth, while having a strong ride to finish first in Limit Flat.
In Intro Flat, Heaton finished fourth in Intro Flat. In Pre-Novice Flat, Gustafson took first.
Gullo placed second in Open Fences, and fifth in Open Flat. Borchert placed second in Intermediate Fences, and fifth in Intermediate Flat.
Droll finished third in Novice Flat, while Lancaster took sixth.
In Limit Flat Sunday, Retzlaff placed first, and took fourth in Limit Fences. Waldron placed sixth in Novice Flat.
The next IHSA meets for the Golden Eagles will be home meets March 9 and 10 at the Charles H. Casey Equine Arena.
