Crookston, Minn. – Augustana, who has lost four out of their last five matches in NSIC play, left no doubt on Friday, sweeping Minnesota Crookston (17-25, 19-25, 18-25) to get back on the right track.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 2-13 (1-6 NSIC), while the Vikings improve to 11-4 (3-4 NSIC).
Set One
The Vikings would score the first three points of the set, but
Charlee Krieg (Jr., OH, Cavalier, N.D.) would collect a kill to halt the run.
Augustana would lead 8-3, but
Bailey Schaefer (So., OH, Brandon, Minn.) would collect a kill and a service ace to cut into the deficit.
The Golden Eagles would eventually trail 17-8, but they would scratch their way back into the set, scoring six straight points, helped by a pair of kills from Schaefer and a service ace from
Layne Whaley (So., DS, Ashland, Neb.).
The Vikings would pull away to win the opening set by eight.
Set Two
The Golden Eagles would get off to a better start in set two, taking a 3-1 lead, with the help of a
Natalie Koke (R-Sr., S, Caledonia, Wis.) service ace.
A Koke kill would put the Golden Eagles up 7-6, but the Vikings would score five straight to take an 11-7 lead.
Augustana would lead 21-14, but the Golden Eagles would score two straight, helped by a
Mara Weisensel (Jr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) kill.
Augustana would pull away and win the second set, 25-19.
Set Three
Audrey Cariveau (Fr., OH, Kevil, Kent.) and
Grace Arndorfer (So., MH, Lino Lakes, Minn.) would get the Golden Eagles off to a good start in set three, collecting back-to-back kills to give the Golden Eagles an early lead.
The two teams would go back-and-forth and the Golden Eagles would tie things up at ten with two straight kills from Schaefer and Cariveau.
Augustana would lead 21-15, but the maroon and gold would use a pair of Viking errors to get back into the set at 21-18.
Augustana would score the next four points to win the set and the match, three sets to none.
Individual Stats
Schaefer, Weisensel and Krieg led the way with seven kills apiece, while Koke finished with 21 assists in the match. Koke also finished with seven digs, while Cariveau and Whaley each had six.
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will head on the road tomorrow afternoon for a match with No. 1 Wayne State College. First serve from Rice Auditorium is set for 1 PM.
