Golden Eagles Head Back on the Road for Doubleheader with Huskies in NSIC Softball Play

St. Cloud, Minn. – Another road doubleheader awaits Golden Eagle softball, who will once again head south for a pair of games with NSIC foe, St. Cloud State University. Minnesota Crookston will look to halt a six-game losing streak and beat the Huskies for the second straight season. The Golden Eagles defeated the Huskies, 6-5 in a wild affair last season in Crookston.

Minnesota Crookston (12-23, 3-7 NSIC)
Minnesota Crookston will look to end a six-game losing streak, all of which have come on the road, although the Golden Eagles were technically the home team against both Winona State and Upper Iowa. In their six-game losing streak, the Golden Eagles have given up double-digit runs in four of those games.
 
Offensively, Minnesota Crookston has been led by upperclassmen Jordan Peterson (R-Sr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.) and Alina Avalos (Jr., IF, Riverside, Calif.). Each has an OPS of over 1.000 and a batting average of above .365. Peterson leads the Golden Eagles with a .397 average and has a hit in her last five games, including a pair of three-hit games. Avalos and Peterson have combined for 28 extra base-hits. Freshman Sydney Huwe (Fr., UT, Carver, Minn.) is hitting .300 and Shaelyn Grant (So., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.) is hitting .298 with three home runs and 17 RBI. Whitnee Curry (Fr., UT, Lincoln, Neb.) has made 18 starts this season and is hitting .364 with 15 runs scored.
 
In the circle, Minnesota Crookston has been led by the dynamic duo of Thayda Houser (So., P, Seymour, Iowa) and Evie Stuck (Fr., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.). The youngsters have combined to make 26 starts on the season and have combined to win 11 out of the 12 games that the Golden Eagles have won this season. Houser has struck out 55 hitters this season.
 
St. Cloud State University (21-12)
The Huskies have a 12-game winning streak to their name this season, but followed that up with losses in three out of their last four games, but did knock off nationally ranked Minnesota State Mankato in their previous game.
 
SCSU is a dangerous offensive team, hitting .288 as a team and have hit 37 home runs, which is tied for second in the NSIC. The Huskies have a whopping five hitters with an average of above .300, including Sydney Trees, who is hitting .308 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI, both of which rank in the top ten in the NSIC. SCSU has eight players with 10 or more RBI.
 
In the circle, the Huskies have one of the best pitching staffs in the NSIC. SCSU has a team ERA of 2.30, led by Trinity Junker, who is 10-5 with a 1.19 ERA in 16 starts and has struck out 121 hitters on the season. Emma Eickhoff is pretty good in her own right. The freshman from Becker, Minn., is 8-3 in 11 starts with a sub-3.00 ERA and has struck out 55 opponents.
