Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Minnesota Crookston women's basketball was in the sunshine state for a pair of non-conference games starting on Friday night against Nova Southeastern. The undefeated Sharks outscored the Golden Eagles, 20-8 in the fourth quarter for the 86-63 victory.
The Golden Eagles fall to 1-5 overall, while the Sharks continue their hot start to the season, moving to 4-0 on the season.
The Golden Eagles would get off to a fast start, leading 6-2 on a pair of layups from Tayrn Frazer (Fr., G, Cass Lake, Minn.) and
Nicole Hernandez (Jr., F/C, Oak Creek, Wis.), while
Erika Lane (So., G, Breezy Point, Minn.) would make a jumper.
The Golden Eagles would trail 10-7, but a pair of freshmen would regain the lead.
Janie Tormanen (Fr., F, Menahga, Minn.) would score a layup and
Emma Miller (Fr., G, Albertville, Minn.) would connect on the first of her career-high four makes from deep, as the Golden Eagles would lead 12-10.
The third three of the quarter for Miller would give the Golden Eagles a 20-18 lead, but NSU would tie things up after the first 10 minutes.
Lane would cash in on a three to give the Golden Eagles a 25-24 lead, but the Sharks would take the lead for good on the next possession.
Trailing 42-33, a pair of
Bren Fox (R-Sr., C, Norwood Young America, Minn.) free throws and a Miller jumper in the paint would cut the lead to 42-37 at the break.
NSU would extend their lead back out to eight, but a Tormanen layup and a three from
Natalie Mikrot (Fr., G, Willow River, Minn.) would get the Golden Eagles back within three at the midway point of the third quarter.
Alex Page (So., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) would score five straight points at the end of the third quarter, helping the maroon and gold get within 11 heading into the final quarter.
NSU would pull away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Golden Eagles by 12, for the 23 point victory on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Miller led the way with 16 points and a career-high nine rebounds and four makes from deep. Page finished with a season-high 11 points, while Tormanen continued her strong freshmen season, scoring 10 points. Lane and Frazer each finished with six points.
The Golden Eagles shot 48 percent from the field and was 6-9 from deep, while also outrebounding NSU by seven. Minnesota Crookston turned the ball over 30 times compared to just eight for the Sharks.

The Golden Eagles will close out their Florida trip tomorrow afternoon against Palm Beach Atlantic. Tip-off is set for 1 P.M., from Fort Lauderdale.
