Michigan Tech Uses Big Third Quarter to Knock-Off Minnesota Crookston

Crookston, Minn. – Michigan Tech used a 26 point third quarter to upend Minnesota Crookston by 20, 82-62, on Saturday afternoon.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 0-4 on the season, while the Huskies improve to 4-1 on the season.

The game would start slow, as both teams would be scoreless before Bren Fox (R-Sr., C, Norwood Young America, Minn.) would bury a pair of free throws.

The Golden Eagles would lead 6-0 after a layup from Taryn Frazier (Fr., G, Cass Lake, Minn.) and another layup from Emma Miller (Fr., G, Albertville, Minn.).

A Fox layup would give the Golden Eagles a 13-12 lead, but a three by Sara Dax would give the Huskies a lead they wouldn't give up.

An Alex Page (So., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) tough driving layup would get the Golden Eagles back within two at 19-17. The Golden Eagles would trail by four after the first ten minutes.

Erika Lane (So., G, Breezy Point, Minn.) would bury a three from the left wing to cut the Huskies lead to 23-22.

MTU would finish the half strong, going on a 6-2 run to close out the first half, heading into the locker room up by nine, 39-30.

The Huskies would come out firing in the second half. After trailing by 12 early on, the Golden Eagles would get back within nine after a Page old-fashioned three-point play.

From that point, it would be all Huskies, who would go into the final ten minutes up by 24.

The Golden Eagles would try to answer, but they would get to as close as 20 in the fourth quarter. MTU would win, 82-62.

Miller continues to play well, leading the way with 15 points and a career-high eight rebounds on 7-19 shooting from the field. Lane, Page and Nicole Hernandez (Jr., F/C, Oak Creek, Wis.) each finished with seven points. Lily Orazem (So., G, Onamia, Minn.) finished with a season-high six points.

The Golden Eagles shot 35.4 percent from the field and 27.6 percent from deep.
