Set One
Minnesota Crookston would score the first two points on a pair of
Layne Whaley (So., DS, Ashland, Neb.) service aces.
The Golden Eagles would stretch their lead to 6-2. BSU would cut into the lead at 8-7, but the Golden Eagles would go on a 4-0 run, highlighted by a pair of
Audrey Cariveau (Fr., OH, Kevil, Kent.) and
Charlee Krieg (Jr., OH, Cavalier, N.D.) kills.
Another pair of service aces, this time from
Kora Norland (So., S, Fosston, Minn.) put the set out of reach, as the Golden Eagles would win the first set by seven.
Set Two
The two teams would go back-and-forth early on in the set, but the Beavers would go on a run and take a two point lead at 11-9.
The maroon and gold would claw back in the set to tie it up at 11. That would continue to be the theme as the two teams would trade points.
With the score 20-19, Cariveau would collect two of her team-high 16 kills to help the Golden Eagles go on a run and win the second set, 25-22.
Set Three
The maroon and gold would get off to a great start looking for the sweep as
Mara Weisensel (Jr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) would collect two-straight kills for a 4-2 lead.
A service error from the Beavers would knot things up at 11. From there, the Beavers would control things, extending their lead to 17-12.
The Beavers would have set point, but a service error and a kill from
Natalie Koke (R-Sr., S, Caledonia, Wis.) would try to get the Golden Eagles back in it, but the green and white would stay alive in the set with a 25-18 win in the third set.
Set Four
What a wild, wacky and long set the fourth set would turn out to be.
Three kills in a row by the trio of
Bailey Schaefer (So., OH, Brandon, Minn.), Koke and Weisensel would give the Golden Eagles a 5-3 lead early on.
With the score tied at eight, Minnesota Crookston would go on a brief 3-0 run for an 11-8 lead.
Trailing by one late in the set, the Golden Eagles would score another three straight points, all coming off of the arm of Cariveau, forcing a Beaver timeout with the Golden Eagles up, 23-21.
BSU would then score the next three, but the Golden Eagles would fight off set point, taking a 25-24 lead.
The Beavers would lead 27-26. A play at the net would force a Beaver challenge, which would then be won by the Beavers, but would later be reversed to a point for the Golden Eagles. Minnesota Crookston would score the next two following the 15-minute delay for the 3-1 match win.
