Crookston, Minn. – It was senior day for the Golden Eagles softball team, who hosted the University of Mary for an NSIC doubleheader.
The Golden Eagles fell in game one, 6-3, but were able to slug their way to an 11-2 victory in six innings in game two.
With the split, the Golden Eagles move to 9-31 (5-21 NSIC) on the season.
Game One
The Golden Eagles got off to a quick start in game one, scoring first on a
Jordan Peterson (R-Jr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.) groundout, which scored
Hannah Macias (Jr., OF, West Covina, Calif.).
Madelynn Trout would knot the game up at one with a home run over the centerfield wall in the top of the second inning.
After trailing 1-0, the Marauders would score six straight runs, highlighted by a three-run top half of the fourth inning.
Trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Golden Eagles would not go away quietly.
Minnesota Crookston would score twice in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by a Macias RBI single. The Golden Eagles would get the winning run to the plate in
Rachel Jones (Fr., UT, Fort Collins, Colo.), who would line out hard to the Marauder second baseman.
The Golden Eagles collected five hits on the day, including a pair off the bat of Macias. Minnesota Crookston would leave nine runners on the base paths in game one.
Katie Humhej (Sr., P, Surrey, British Columbia) picked up the loss, going 3.2 innings, while giving up four runs, while striking out seven.
Game Two
Once again, Peterson was able to give the Golden Eagles an early lead, this time via the long ball to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
The Marauders would tie things up at one, but the Golden Eagles would score three runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a
Shaelyn Grant (Fr., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.) RBI single.
In the bottom of the third, Jones would double in a run and then would eventually come around to score on a three-run home run off the bat of senior
Cassie Querry (Sr., C/3B, Cassville, Pa.), to make it 8-1 in favor of the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles would score three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to run-rule the Marauders and win the game, 11-2.
The Golden Eagles collected 10 hits in the game, including two apiece from Peterson, Jones and
Leah Macias (Jr., OF, West Covina, Calif.). The Golden Eagles left five runners on base.
In the circle,
Sofia Gombos (Fr., P, Salinas, Calif.) picked up her fourth victory of the season, while giving up just one run on three hits, while striking out five.
Darian Pancirov (Sr., P/1B, Las Vegas, Nev.) gave up just one run in two innings of work.
What's Next
Minnesota Crookston will close out the regular season tomorrow afternoon for a twin bill with Minot State. First pitch is set for 12 p.m., from Crookston.
