Golden Eagles Finish Season with Split against Minot State; Seniors Humhej and Querry have Huge Days in Circle, at the Plate

Crookston, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team wrapped up their season this afternoon with a doubleheader against Minot State University in Crookston.

Senior Cassie Querry (Sr., C/3B, Cassville, Pa.) had a huge day, hitting a three-run home run in game one and a grand slam in game two. The Golden Eagles won game one, 4-1 and fell in game two, 9-7.

Game One
In game one, the Golden Eagles would jump out to a 1-0 lead on a Hailey Hatfield (Fr., UT, Olathe, Kan.) RBI groundout.

The Beavers would answer in the top half of the fourth to tie the game at one.

The tie wouldn't last long. Querry hit a three-run home run that was able to stay just fair down the right field line to give the Golden Eagles a 4-1 lead.

That would be all the Golden Eagles would need for Katie Humhej (Sr., P, Surrey, British Columbia). In her final start as a Golden Eagle, Humhej went the distance, while giving up four hits and striking out seven. Humhej picked up her sixth win of the season.

Offensively, the Golden Eagles picked up eight hits on the day, including a pair from Querry and Hannah Macias (Jr., OF, West Covina, Calif.). The Golden Eagles picked up a pair of stolen bases as well in game one.

Game Two
In game two, the Beavers would jump on the Golden Eagles early and often. Isis Cabral would hit a two-run home run over the right field fence for a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

The Beavers would score three runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth inning for a 7-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles would come all the way back in the bottom of the fifth. Querry would hit her sixth home run of the season, this one a grand slam to cut the Beaver lead to 7-4. With one out, Gabriella Blomdahl (So., OF, Duluth, Minn.) would place a double to centerfield to cut the MSU lead to just one. Blomdahl would later come around to score after Shaelyn Grant (Fr., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.) stole second.

With the game tied at seven in the seventh, Lenora Watson would give the Beavers a 9-7 lead with a two out, two strike home run over the right centerfield wall.

Minot State was able to hold the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the 7th to earn the 9-7 win.

Offensively, Minnesota Crookston collected 12 hits on the day, including two from Querry, Blomdahl, Leah Macias (Jr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) and Jordan Peterson (R-Jr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.). Querry drove in seven runs on the day.

Humhej picked up the loss after coming in relief in the top of the sixth inning.

Thank You Seniors
Today was the final games of the careers of three Golden Eagle seniors: Katie Humhej, Cassie Querry and Darian Pancirov (Sr., P/1B, Las Vegas, Nev.)
