Bemidji, Minn. – After sweeping the Dragons of MSUM last Wednesday in Moorhead, Minnesota Crookston softball is set to get the NSIC season underway on Monday afternoon against Bemidji State University. The doubleheader in Bemidji is set for 1/3 p.m.
The Golden Eagles are currently 4-10 on the season, including a win over the Beavers earlier this season. These are the first NSIC games for both the Golden Eagles and Beavers
The bats may have been woken last weekend in Moorhead. The Golden Eagles scored double-digit runs in both games against the Dragons, the first time they have scored more than 10 runs in back-to-back games this season. The Golden Eagles used the long ball to help score those runs.
Alina Avalos (So., P/1B, Riverside, Calif.),
Jordan Peterson (R-Jr., UT, Lakeville, Minn.),
Shaelyn Grant (Fr., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.) and
Alyssa Stillman (So., SS/2B, Hortonville, Wis.) each went deep in the doubleheader last weekend.
As a team, the Golden Eagles are led by
Dana Zarn (So., IF, Winnipeg, Manitoba), who is currently hitting .366 on the season and leads the team with 15 hits. Zarn currently has a seven game hit streak, dating back to Feb. 20 against Bemidji State.
Rachel Jones (Fr., UT, Fort Collins, Colo.) and Haley Hatfield (Fr., UT, Olathe, Kan.) are currently enjoying nice freshman seasons as well.
In the circle, Minnesota Crookston has enjoyed the solid 1-2 punch of
Katie Humhej (Sr., P, Surrey, British Columbia) and
Sofia Gombos (Fr., P, Salinas, Calif.). Both currently have an ERA of less than four, led by Humhej, who has a 3.03 earned run average. The duo have combined for five complete games and 60 strikeouts on the season. Gombos earned a win over the Beavers earlier this season.

Bemidji State
The Beavers are coming off one of their biggest wins in program history, defeating No. 9 Rogers State, 6-1, a week ago. The Beavers have an identical record as the Golden Eagles at 4-10.
Although the Beavers have struggled offensively this season as a team, hitting .245 collectively, they do have some individuals that stick out. Lisa Kossan and Emmarie Yeager are both hitting over .300. Yeager is tied for the team lead with Elaina Christensen, who each have two home runs on the season.
In the circle, the Beavers might have one of the best pitchers in the conference in Stephi Dullum. Dullum, who has already faced the Golden Eagles this season, is the reigning NSIC Pitcher of the Week, following a complete game, three hit and six strikeout performance against Rogers State. It'll be a tall task for the Golden Eagles should they see Dullum on Monday.
