2/10/2021 5:20:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 St. Paul, Minn.—Minnesota Crookston opened up the 2021 season with a pair of games in the West St. Paul Dome against Bemidji State and Jamestown.

Both the Beavers and Jimmies were able to hold the Golden Eagles bats silent, holding the maroon and gold to just one run in two games. BSU defeated Minnesota Crookston, 8-1 in the opening game and Jamestown topped Minnesota Crookston 3-0 in the second half of the doubleheader.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 0-2 on the season.

Coach Owen likes what he sees from his defense, but knows that the bats were silent today.

"Our bats were cold today, but with better strike zone discipline, we feel like we have a good chance to get both games, especially game two," said the third year head coach. "We will look forward to continuing to improve and competing again in a few days."
Game One
In the opening game of the regular season for both teams, it was the Beavers who got off to an excellent start. BSU scored one run apiece in both the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead.

Minnesota Crookston was able to get on the board off of a Dana Zarn (So., 3B, Winnipeg, Man.), scoring Gabriella Blomdahl (So., OF, Duluth, Minn.).

The Beavers would score five runs in the sixth inning to pull away from the Golden Eagles and win, 8-1.

The Golden Eagles got four hits in the game, with Zarn and Blomdahl each collecting a hit, as did Cassie Querry (Sr., C, Cassville, Pa.) and Alina Avalos (So., P/1B, Riverside, Calif.). As a team, the Golden Eagles left four runners on base.

In the circle, Katie Humehj (Sr., P, Surrey, British Columbia) picked up the loss, going 5.0 innings, striking out six and allowing three earned runs to cross home plate.

Stephi Dullum was unreal in the circle for the Beavers, also going 5.0 innings, but striking out 10 Golden Eagle hitters.
Game Two
In game number two, the game would be scoreless until the fourth inning, when Jamestown would score three runs, which would be enough to shut out the Golden Eagles, 3-0.

Minnesota Crookston would struggle to get runners on base, not getting a base runner past first base.
What's Next
It will be a quick turnaround for the Golden Eagles. Minnesota Crookston will head back down south to St. Cloud to play four in the Husky Dome. The Golden Eagles will play Truman State on Friday night in a traditional doubleheader, starting at 5:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles will then play on Saturday for two games against Northwestern College (IA) and Viterbo University (Wis.). First pitch with Northwestern College is set for 1:30 p.m.
