Golden Eagles Struggle from the Field in Loss to Wolves

Crookston, Minn.— Led by Parker Fox's 24 points, Northern State defeated Minnesota Crookston on Friday night inside Lysaker Gymnasium, 97-60.

With the win, the Wolves improve to 11-4 overall (7-2 NSIC), while the Golden Eagles fall to 7-8 overall (3-6 NSIC).

The Golden Eagles jumped off to a quick 8-4 start, after a pair of rim-rocking jams from Javier Nicolau (Sr., F, Castellon, Spain).

After Fox buried his first of two makes from behind the arc, the Wolves would take a 13-10 lead, a lead they would never relent.

With Harrison Cleary (Sr., G, Oak Creek, Wis.) on the bench, the Golden Eagles would cut a once eight point Wolves lead to just two, after two-straight Brian Sitzmann layups.

The Wolves would end the half on a 20-9 run, to take a 40-27 lead into the halftime break.

Much like the first half in Aberdeen, the Wolves couldn't seemingly miss, shooting 51.5 percent from the field. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles made just nine field goals in the first half, shooting just 27.7 percent.

The second half would be all Wolves, who would stretch their lead to 39 late in the second half, to come away with the 37-point victory.

Individually, the Golden Eagles were led by Cleary, who was held to a season-low 13 points, while also pulling down four rebounds. Tyrese Shines (Fr., G, La Grange, Ill.) had his best game of his brief Golden Eagle career, scoring 10 points and six rebounds. Sitzmann had nine points, while Malcolm Cohen (R-Sr., F, Detroit, Mich.) and Nicolau each added eight points on the night.

Minnesota Crookston will look to end their four-game losing streak tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m., as they host MSU Moorhead in round two of their season series.
