Minnesota Crookston Baseball Games Relocated to Sioux Falls Saturday and Sunday

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball games against University of Sioux Falls scheduled to be at the UMC Baseball Field Sat., April 7 and Sun., April 8 have been relocated to Sioux Falls Stadium in Sioux Falls, S.D. The games were moved due to field conditions and the weather forecast in Crookston, Minn. Saturday's current forecast from The Weather Channel is positive with high temperature of 37, sunny conditions and a seven mile per hour wind. Sunday's weather conditions remain questionable as it is slated to snow in Sioux Falls with a 21 mile per hour wind and a high of 36. As of right now, both games are on but stay tuned to goldeneaglesports.com for any weather related changes.

Minnesota Crookston enters the weekend with a 12-17 (2-12 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles are coming off two big victories over University of Mary Wed., April 4 in Watford City, N.D. The wins halted a 12-game losing streak for the Golden Eagles dating back to a victory March 12 over Pace University. Minnesota Crookston is looking to bring their confidence into this weekend's series against the Cougars.

Sioux Falls comes into Saturday with a 6-18 (6-8 NSIC) record. The Cougars split last weekend with St. Cloud State University.

Minnesota Crookston enters the weekend hitting .273 as a team coming off a strong performance Wednesday at the plate. The Golden Eagles have been guided as of late by Ben Thoma (Fr., UT, Clearbrook, Minn.) and Anthony Stewart (R-Sr., OF, Oak Harbor, Wash.). In the last six games, Thoma is hitting .412 with two runs, two doubles and eight RBIs with a .522 on-base percentage. Stewart has also been productive, as he is hitting .400 with seven runs, two doubles, one home run and eight RBIs in the same six games. In addition to those two players, Reed Hjelle (Jr., 1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) has been clutch in the four-hole for the Golden Eagles. Hjelle is batting .375 with 16 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 29 RBIs. Ethan Mushitz (Sr., SS, East Grand Forks, Minn.) has also added power to the middle of the order as he is hitting .295 with a team-high five home runs on the 2018 campaign.

Minnesota Crookston's pitching staff has been guided by the success of their bullpen. Zach Seipel (Sr., RHP, Eagan, Minn.) anchors the bullpen with a 1-1 mark and a 2.75 ERA in 19.2 innings pitched with five saves, 34 strikeouts and 13 walks. Aaron Hollcraft (Jr., LHP, Crookston, Minn.) is 1-0 and has allowed no runs in 8.1 innings pitched with eight strikeouts. Esten Beneda (R-So., RHP, Lankin, N.D.) has posted a 0.96 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched, while Louis Gerzin (Jr., RHP, Ely, Minn.) owns a 2.00 ERA in nine innings pitched.

Sioux Falls is hitting just .245 as a team on the 2018 season. The Cougars have struck out 170 times and have earned just 66 walks. USF has not played a game since March 30 against St. Cloud State University. Josh Rehwaldt leads the bats for Sioux Falls as he has a .440 batting average with 16 runs, six doubles, five home runs and 21 RBIs. The Cougars have been missing Rob Johnson since March 23. Johnson was hitting .328 with 10 runs, seven doubles and nine RBIs. Dylan Gavin is batting .287 with 10 runs, three doubles and seven RBIs.

Gavin has also been the top arm for USF with a 2-3 mark and a .280 ERA in 35.1 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts and 16 walks.
