GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 7-2 Sun., Feb. 11 to Upper Iowa University at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D.
The Golden Eagles fall to 0-3 on the season with Sunday's loss. Upper Iowa sits at 1-3 on the season after Sunday's victory.
Minnesota Crookston continued to improve as they were able to take several games in both singles and doubles. In doubles, the pair of
Whitney Erickson (Sr., Spring Valley, Minn.) and
Reanne Erickson (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) took two games off Shakhnaza Zhanatova and Anna Okolot, but they ultimately fell 8-2. At the No. 2 slot,
Hanna Ruckheim (So., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and
Adrianna Tiede (So., LeCenter, Minn.) took a game from Lavanya Singh and Lara Peco, but they would drop the match 8-1. At No. 3 doubles,
Tori Koch (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Karli Renney (Fr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) won by forfeit.
In singles,
Whitney Erickson was able to take two games in the second set, but she dropped the match 6-0, 6-2 to Zhanatova. At the No. 2 spot,
Reanne Erickson took one game from Okolot, but she fell 6-0, 6-1. Ruckheim played well for Minnesota Crookston at No. 3 singles. The sophomore took a pair of games in both sets in a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Singh. At No. 4 singles, Tiede competed well and took three games as she fell 6-1, 6-2 to Peco. At the No. 5 spot, Koch also improved as she took three games in a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Brianna Heichert. Renney picked up the win by forfeit at the No. 6 slot for Minnesota Crookston.
The Golden Eagles return to action Feb. 17 at St. Cloud State University at 9 a.m. in Bemidji, Minn.
