Grand Forks, N.D. -- For the second straight time this weekend, Minnesota Crookston needed a dramatic singles win for another NSIC win, this time, a 4-3 win over the University of Mary.
Minnesota Crookston won their fifth match in a row, fourth consecutive in the NSIC and improving to 5-3 in NSIC play.
The Golden Eagles would have to come from behind in the match, as the Marauders would earn that all important doubles point. Lone senior Kavya Singh (Sr., Agra, India) and Nadia Cases Mundet (Jr., Barcelona, Spain) won their doubles match, 6-2.
In the singles, the Golden Eagles would get points from their top two, as Daniela de Lucas Rivera (Jr., Madrid, Spain) would win her match in convincing fashion, 6-4 and 6-1. Asli Oktay (So., Istanbul, Turkey) won her match in dramatic fashion, helping the Golden Eagles get their fourth point.
Singh would dominate her opponent, winning 6-3 and 6-0. Abril Manas Hernandez (So., Barcelona, Spain) would defeat her opponent 7-6 and 6-4.
The five match winning streak is tied for the longest in school history. The maroon and gold have surpassed their win total from last season and are two wins away from tying their previous school record of 10 wins.
The Golden Eagles will close out the regular season in two weekends on the road at St. Cloud State and MSU Moorhead.
