Golden Eagles Set for 2018 Lynda Goodrich Classic in Pacific Northwest

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team will trek to the 2018 Lynda Goodrich Classic played Fri., Nov. 23 and Sat., Nov. 24 at WECU Court at Carver Gym in Bellingham, Wash. The Golden Eagles will take on Saint Martin's University Friday at 9:30 p.m. C.T. Minnesota Crookston will conclude the trip by taking on Western Washington University, the tournament host, Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Golden Eagles are off to their best start since the 2004-05 season, as they enter the week with an unblemished 4-0 mark. Minnesota Crookston is looking to keep their strong start rolling entering two tough games against NCAA Division II opponents at the Lynda Goodrich Classic. The Golden Eagles received votes in the D2SIDA Central Region poll for the first time in recent history.

Minnesota Crookston has had a potent starting line-up this season as they enter the week averaging 67.1 points per game. The Golden Eagles, as a whole, are notching 75.3 points per game, while allowing 65.0 points per tilt to their opponents.

Isieoma Odor (R-Sr., F/C, Bloomington, Minn.) is pacing the Golden Eagles with a double-double of 17.0 points and 13.8 rebounds per game. Odor has notched a double-double in all four games this season. She has earned the NSIC North Player of the Week twice already this season. In addition, Odor is shooting 47.1 percent from the field, and 80.0 percent from the foul line. Her fellow captain, Caitlin Michaelis (Sr., G, Marshfield, Wis.) also has had an outstanding start with 15.5 points and 2.8 assists per game.

Freshman Kylie Post (G, Corcoran, Minn.) has been a potent addition to the line-up this season with her ability to create for her teammates and get to the hoop. Post is averaging 14.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. Abby Guidinger (G/F, Waukesha, Wis.) has had a strong start to her sophomore campaign with 13.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Paige Weakley (Jr., G/F, Kearney, Mo.) comes into the weekend notching 6.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, while shooting a team-high 46.2 percent from beyond the arc.

Minnesota Crookston is shooting 41.8 percent from the field, 29.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 74.4 percent from the stripe. The Golden Eagles have owned the edge on the boards this season 42.5 to 37.5.

Saint Martin's is a NCAA Division II foe out of Lacey, Wash. The Saints enter the week with a 1-2 record on the 2018-19 season. Saint Martin's is coming off a three overtime loss to Dixie State University last Saturday. Their lone win came Nov. 7 over Pacific Lutheran University 71-63.

The Saints are paced by Makenna Schultz, who is averaging 23.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Schultz is a dangerous shooter from deep, where she is hitting 46.9 percent of her shots. Saniah Simpson-Patu comes into the weekend notching 16.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, while Claire Dingus is tallying 9.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per tilt. Megan Nilsson comes into the tournament with 8.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Nilsson is a 6-2 transfer from Division I Fresno State University.

The Saints also have Jayla Russ in their line-up, a 6-0 transfer from Division I affiliate Eastern Michigan University. Saint Martin's has a lot of length in their starting line-up as Nilsson and Russ both go over six-feet, Simpson-Patu is 5-10, while Dingus is 5-11, and Schultz is 5-2.

Saint Martin's is shooting just 39.5 percent from the field. They are a 38.0 percent shooting team from beyond the arc. The Saints hit at a clip of 65.3 percent from the foul line. Saint Martin's has easily controlled the boards 46.7 to 35.0 on the season. They have had a tough time holding on to the ball as they are notching 19.3 turnovers per contest.

Western Washington comes into the weekend with a 2-2 mark on the season. The Vikings upset No. 16 Azusa Pacific University 77-74 in overtime last week, while falling 79-72 to University of California-San Diego.

Western Washington has been paced this season by Kelsey Rogers, who is averaging 15.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per tilt. In addition, Dani Iwami comes in tallying 15.0 pints per game. Emma Duff is notching 11.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while Anna Schwecke is tallying 9.5 points and 8.5 boards per tilt.
Western Washington has a lot of length with Duff at 5-11, and both Rogers and Schwecke at over six-feet.

The Vikings are averaging 70.3 points per game, while allowing 73.5 points per contest to their opponents. Western Washington is shooting 37.7 percent from the field. They hit at a 27.3 percent clip from beyond the arc. The Vikings are a strong free throw shooting team, as they are hitting at a 81.5 percent clip on the season. Western Washington is out-rebounding their foes 47.0 to 33.5 on the season. They have also struggled to maintain control of the ball, as they are averaging 20.8 turnovers per tilt.
