Golden Eagles Wrap Up Home Slate Against Minnesota Duluth Saturday and Sunday

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball program will host University of Minnesota Duluth for their final home weekend of the season Sat., April 29 at 2 and 4:30 p.m. and Sun., April 30 at 12 and 2:30 p.m. at UMC Baseball Field in Crookston, Minn.

Minnesota Crookston comes into the weekend with an 18-24 (12-18 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles are just two wins away from reaching 20 wins in the consecutive seasons, which would be a program first. The Golden Eagles are currently in a tie with Northern State University for 11th place. Minnesota Crookston is one game behind Winona State University, University of Sioux Falls and Upper Iowa University in eighth place.

Minnesota Duluth comes into the weekend with a 21-20 (16-13 NSIC) record. The Bulldogs are currently in fifth place in the conference standings.

Minnesota Crookston is coming off two tough losses to Northern State University Thursday. The Golden Eagles have been led on the year by one of the league's top leadoff hitters in Anthony Stewart (R-Jr., OF, Oak Harbor, Wash.). Stewart is coming off a pair of good games Thursday against the Wolves. He is batting .331 on the season with a team-high 39 runs scored and 28 RBI's. In addition, he has blasted a team-high five home runs. The U of M Crookston's middle of the order is paced by Reed Hjelle (So., 1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.), who is batting .338 with 25 runs scored and 22 RBI's. Minnesota Crookston has had a boost this season from Brandon Kresl (Sr., 1B, Crookston, Minn.), who earned his first start of the season on Thursday. Kresl is hitting .412 in 17 at-bats, with two runs scored and three RBI's.

On the bump, Minnesota Crookston has been led by their closer Zach Seipel (Sr., RHP, Eagan, Minn.), who has a 2.93 ERA in 30.2 innings pitched. Seipel leads the league with nine saves on the year. The starting rotation is led by Cody Pamperin (Sr., RHP, Shakopee, Minn.), who has a 3.39 ERA in 13 appearances and 10 starts. Pamperin needs just two more appearances to tie Ryan Paasch for the all-time record in program history.

Minnesota Duluth picked up a split on Thursday with Winona State. The Bulldogs have been led on the year by Tyler Midas, who is batting .349 with 27 runs scored, 11 doubles, five home runs and 27 RBI's. In addition to Midas, Kyle Hoffman is hitting .372 with 13 runs scored and 17 RBI's, while Tyler Wojciechowski is hitting .361 with 13 runs scored, one home run and 14 RBI's.

The starting rotation for the Bulldogs is paced by Marcus Frederickson, who is 2-0 and with a 1.95 ERA in 32.1 innings pitched. Rece Dietrich has also been strong for UMD with a 3-2 record and a 2.79 ERA in 38.2 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, the Bulldogs have looked to Colton Sinning, who is 2-1 with a 1.62 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched.

The Golden Eagles will recognize their nine seniors on Saturday following the conclusion of the games. Minnesota Crookston will recognize four-year seniors Pamperin, Patrick Higgins (Sr., OF, Eagan, Minn.), Cayden Barta (Sr., RHP, Fargo, N.D.) and Kresl. In addition, three-year senior Patrick Amerson (Sr., IF, Eagan, Minn.) and two-year seniors David Olson (Sr., C/3B, Stillwater, Minn.), Zac Carrillo (Sr., RHP, Manteca, Calif.), Matthew Dallas (Sr., RHP, Boise, Idaho) and Jeremy Spinner (Sr., IF, Phoenix, Ariz.), will all be honored for their role in helping move the program forward in their time at Minnesota Crookston.
