The Golden Eagles are coming off an important series win over Upper Iowa University last weekend. Minnesota Crookston has now moved into a tie for eighth place in the NSIC after winning three of four from the Peacocks. The Golden Eagles will look to continue to build on the positive momentum heading into their final 12 games of the 2017 season. With an 18-20 (12-14 NSIC) mark, the Golden Eagles are just two wins away from reaching 20 wins for the second-consecutive season.
This year's baseball team owes much of their success to their pitching as the team comes in with an ERA of 4.93 on the season.
Zach Seipel (So., RHP, Eagan, Minn.) has been one of the most dominant relief pitchers in the league as he has a 2.10 ERA with a league-leading nine saves. In the starting rotation, senior
Cody Pamperin (Shakopee, Minn.) is 1-4 with a 3.61 ERA in 47.1 innings pitched, while
Justin Yutrzenka (Fr., RHP, Argyle, Minn.) is 3-2 with a 4.05 ERA in 46.2 innings pitched.
The Golden Eagle bats have continued to improve this season. They are now hitting .258 for the year. Minnesota Crookston is led by
Reed Hjelle (So., 1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.), who is batting .336 with 22 runs scored, six doubles and 20 RBI's.
Anthony Stewart (R-Jr., OF, Oak Harbor, Wash.) has also been a potent player in the line-up for Minnesota Crookston. The junior college transfer is hitting .324 with a team-high 35 runs scored. He also has the speed with a team-high 11 stolen bases to go with his power with a team-high four home runs. He also leads the team with 27 RBI's.
St. Cloud State comes into Wednesday with a 27-11 (18-8 NSIC) mark. The Huskies are currently third in the conference standings. St. Cloud State is hitting .322 as a team led by Jackson Goplen, who is batting .391 with 29 runs scored, five home runs and 23 RBI's. Bo Schmitz enters the week hitting .359 with 45 runs scored, six doubles and 24 RBI's. The regular lineup for the Huskies has eight players hitting over .300 on the season.
On the bump, St. Cloud State is led by mid-week starter Cal Giese. The lefty is 6-2 with a 1.69 ERA in 42.2 innings pitched. The Huskies have also consistently cone to lefty Shannon Ahern in the mid-week games. Ahern is 2-2 with a 4.02 ERA in 31.1 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, Miles Nablo is 3-1 with a 1.83 ERA in 19.2 innings pitched.
