WINONA, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis program opened up their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) slate with a 9-0 loss to Upper Iowa University in Winona, Minn. Sat., Feb. 11.
"We ran into a strong Upper Iowa team today," said Head Coach
Lee Meier. "They are well-coached and have a good team for top to bottom. We competed and played hard and were in a lot of points but fell short in games."
The Golden Eagles fall to 0-2 on the year with the loss. Upper iowa improves to 1-0 on the year with the victory.
In doubles, the No. 1 duo of
Whitney Erickson (Jr., Spring Valley, Minn.) and
Reanne Erickson (So., Fargo, N.D.) fell 8-3 to Isabella Sella and Linn Sorman. At No. 2 doubles,
Ellen Dauphinais (Sr., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and
Adrianna Tiede (Fr., LeCenter, Minn.) fell 8-1 to Kelly Jachymowski and Shakhnaza Zhanatova. At No. 3 doubles slot,
Hanna Ruckheim (Fr., Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and
Tien Nguyen (So., Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) fell 8-1 to Anna Okolot and Breanna Heichert.
In singles,
Whitney Erickson fell 6-0, 6-1 to Sella at the top slot. At No. 2 singles,
Reanne Erickson was upended 6-0, 6-0 by Zhanatova. At the No. 3 spot, Sorman upended Ruckheim, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Jachymowski upended Tiede, 6-0, 6-0. At the fifth slot, Okolot defeated Dauphinais, 6-0, forfeit. Nguyen rounded things out by falling to Heichert, 6-0, 6-0.
The Golden Eagles wrapped up their weekend with a match Saturday night against Winona State University.
