HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 7-2 to Shepherd University Tues., March 15 in Hilton Head, S.C. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-10 on the season with the loss. UMC was led by
Catherine Brown (Sr., Powell Butte, Ore.), who continues her great start to the season in singles as the senior moved to 6-4 on the 2016 season. Brown and her doubles partner
Whitney Erickson also picked up a win at No. 1 doubles against Shepherd.
Brown led the Golden Eagles with her 6-4, 6-1 win over Molly Lovern at No. 1 singles. At the No. 2 slot,
Whitney Erickson fell in a hard-fought match 7-6, 7-5 to Alisha Adkins.
Bailey Morris (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) won the first set again Zoie Oneil, but would end up falling 1-6, 6-0, 10-1 to Oneil in the match. At No. 4 singles,
Reanne Erickson (Fr., Fargo, N.D. ) fell to Nickie Bruley, 6-3, 6-4. At the No. 5 spot,
Nikki Dogan (So., Grand Forks, N.D.) dropped her match to Anna Bock, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 6 singles,
Tien Nguyen (Fr., Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) fell to Nikki Kees, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, Brown and
Whitney Erickson upended Lovern and Adkins, 8-4. At the No. 2 slot, Bruley and Oniel defeated Morris and Dogan, 8-4. At the No. 3 doubles spot, Bock and Kees defeated
Reanne Erickson and Nguyen, 8-0.
The Golden Eagles will return to action as they take on Fairmont State University March 18 in Hilton Head, S.C.
