Box Score MARSHALL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 27-25) to No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State University at the P.E. Gym Friday night. The Golden Eagles fought hard in the third set and fell just short, falling 3-0 to the Mustangs. Minnesota Crookston falls to 7-6 (1-4 NSIC). Southwest Minnesota State improves to 9-5 (4-2 NSIC) with Friday's win.

The Golden Eagles hit .158 for the match led by Brittany Looker (Sr., OH, Rochester, Minn./Health Science), who had eight kills and hit .032. Kelci Green (R-Fr., MH, Anoka, Minn./Biology) filled in for Morgan VanGerpen (Sr., MH, Overland Park, Kan./Early Childhood Education) and had six kills and hit .455 for the match. Her twin sister Kassi Green (R-Fr., RS/Anoka, Minn./Elementary Education) had eight kills and hit .316. Rachel Freund (Fr., OH, Jordan, Minn./Health Science) had six kills and hit .308.

At setter, Sierra Trost (So., Ham Lake, Minn./Health Science) tallied 27 assists. Defensively, Looker led the way with nine digs while Erin Schwarz (So., MH, Eden Prairie, Minn./Undecided) had three block assists.

SMSU hit .393 in the match including .571 with 18 kills in the first set and .441 with 16 kills in the second set. The Mustangs were led by Sarah Parker's 21 kills and .690 hitting percentage. Kenzie Beekman and Abbey Thissen each added nine kills. Megan Larson led the way with 28 assists, while Emilee Gutzmer added 14 helpers.

Whitney Burmeister led the defense with 15 digs, while Parker led the way with five block assists.

The Golden Eagles will help to University of Sioux Falls to face the Cougars at 4 p.m. Sat., Sept. 27 as they end their string of matches against ranked foes. The Golden Eagles' previous four matches were against ranked opponents with No. 19 Wayne State College (Neb.), No. 21 Augustana College (S.D.), No. 2 University of Minnesota Duluth and No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State.
