Marauders Sweep Golden Eagles For Second Time this Season

Bismarck, N.D. -- Minnesota Crookston volleyball was swept on the road at the University of Mary in three tight sets (22-25, 22-25, 19-25).

Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-23.

Set One

The first set would start out tight, as neither team would take a lead of more than two, until Minnesota Crookston would go on a 3-0 run, capped off by a pair of Madison Carsten (Sr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) kills for an 8-6 lead.

UMary would flip the script and take a 17-11 lead.

Minnesota Crookston would go on another 3-0 run, with a kill from Lexi Scharold (Jr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) to cut the lead to 21-19.

Scharold would collect a kill and Emma Malek (Sr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) and Jacelyn Crane (Fr., MH, Cumming, Iowa) would collect a dual block to cut the lead to one at 23-22.

UMary would score the final two points for the first set win.

Set Two

Minnesota Crookston would start extremely fast in the second set, taking a 3-0 lead with kills from Malek and Scharold.

Adrienne Venditto (So., DS, Bovey, Minn.) would collect a service ace for a 5-2 lead.

Once again, UMary would go on a massive run and take a 16-10 lead.

Once again, the Golden Eagles would chip away.

Scharold would collect a pair of kills as part of a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 16-15.

UMary would make it 24-19, but the Golden Eagles would fight off three set points and make it 24-22, but couldn't get any closer, as the Marauders would win by three for the second straight set.

Set Three

For the third straight set, it would be another glorious start for the Golden Eagles, who would lead 6-3 after a duo block from seniors Carsten and Malek.

The Marauders would answer with seven straight points, but that would be followed by a 3-0 run for a one point deficit for the Golden Eagles.

UMary would go on another long run and lead 17-11, which would be enough for the six point win and sweep in the match.

Individual Stats

Carsten and Scharold were fantastic, each finishing with 10 kills in the match, while Scharold did it on just 18 total attacks. Carsten added her third straight double-double, finishing with 16 digs, as well.
