Box Score Post-Game Interview with Lee Anderson
CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team made things interesting Saturday evening at Lysaker Gymnasium in front of a vibrant crowd. The Golden Eagles dropped the first two sets to No. 19 Wayne State College (Neb.), but battled back to win the third with no errors and a .400 hitting percentage. The Golden Eagles would lead in the fourth set but Wayne State would come back to win a close set 25-22 to take a hard-fought match 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 21-25, 25-22) over UMC.
The Golden Eagles hit .146 on the match and were led by a strong day from setter
Sierra Trost (So., S, Ham Lake, Minn./Health Science) both offensively and defensively. Trost put together an outstanding night with a double-double of 34 assists and 24 digs. Trost averaged six digs per set on the night. In addition to Trost,
Brittany Looker (Sr., OH, Rochester, Minn./Health Science) returned to her normal ways with 17 kills on the match.
Kassi Green (R-Fr., RS, Anoka, Minn./Elementary Education) added eight kills and hit .217.
Defensively, the Golden Eagles also got a strong night out of libero
Casey Cashman (So., Ashland, Wis./Natural Resources), who had 17 digs.
Stephanie Pearson (Jr., OH, Frankfort, Ill./Accounting) added 12 digs, as did
Kaycie Hagen (Fr., S/DS, Savage, Minn./Health Science).
Wayne State was led by 17 kills from Alyssa Fraudendorfer, who hit .471 for the match. Elizabeth Gebhardt added 16 kills and hit .209, while Katie Hughes had 10 kills. The Wildcats hit .233 for the match led by 46 assists from Leisa McClintock.
Defensively, three players had over 20 kills for Wayne State. Hughes led the way with 21, while Michaela Mestl added 20 and Courtney VanGroningen also had 21. Hughes and Frauendorfer led the block with three block assists.
The Golden Eagles will return to action as they host No. 3 University of Minnesota Duluth Tues., Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium.
