CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team will hit the road to open up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play Tues., Sept. 16 as they head to Bemidji State University. The two conference rivals will take the court at 7 p.m. at BSU Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles are off to one of their strongest starts in program history with a 6-2 mark while Bemidji State enters conference play with a 2-6 overall record.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 2-2 weekend as they picked up wins over Minot State University and Southwest Baptist University but fell to St. Cloud State University and No. 21 Northern State University at the NSU Dacotah Bank Volleyball Classic. The Golden Eagles continue to be guided by the strong play of outside hitter
Brittany Looker (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Health Science), who is averaging 4.87 kills per set and 2.57 digs per set with a .252 hitting percentage. Looker also has 12 service aces on the season to lead UMC.
In addition to Looker,
Stephanie Pearson (Jr., OH, Frankfort, Ill./Accounting) is coming off a strong weekend. Pearson is averaging 2.00 kill per set and 3.03 digs per set on the season. Right side hitter
Kassi Green (R-Fr., Anoka, Minn./Elementary Education) enters the weekend averaging 1.63 kills per set and 0.53 blocks per set.
At setter,
Sierra Trost (So., Ham Lake, Minn./Health Science) is averaging 9.90 assists per set and 0.73 blocks per set. Defensively, UMC has been led by
Mary Mikutowski (Sr., Lib., Stillwater, Minn./Health Science), who comes in averaging 3.59 digs per set. On the block,
Morgan VanGerpen (Sr., MH, Overland Park, Kan./Early Childhood Education) comes in averaging 1.23 blocks per set while
Erin Schwarz (So., MH, Eden Prairie, Minn./Undecided) is averaging 1.00 block per set.
Bemidji State has been led on the season by outside hitter Jessica Yost, who is averaging 3.84 kills per set. In addition, outside hitter Amanda Tronick comes in averaging 2.42 kills per set while middle hitter Rachel Craig is averaging 2.06 kills and 0.97 blocks per set. At setter, Courtney Volkmann comes in averaging 9.81 assists per set. Defensively, Kayla DeJong leads the way with 4.23 digs per set. BSU is in their fifth season under head coach Wayne Chadwick.
