Minnesota Crookston Falls 14-1 and 4-2 to Upper Iowa

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FAYETTE, Iowa - The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team fell 14-1 and 4-2 to Upper Iowa University Fri., April 25 at the Eischeid Softball Complex in Fayette, Iowa. The Golden Eagles battled in game one guided by strong pitching from Bailey Braatz (Fr., P, Buffalo, Minn./Communication), the top pitching performance of her young career. In game two, Upper Iowa used 14 runs on 19 hits to earn the 14-1 win.

Braatz would go five innings, giving up four earned runs on eight hits. Braatz would give up just two runs on four hits in the first four innings. Braatz would suffer the loss despite her strongest pitching performance of the season.

The Golden Eagles would get on the scoreboard first as Brooke Timmins (So., C, Magnolia, Texas/Sports and Rec Management) doubled to score Kaylin Beatty (So., UT, Anodver, Minn./Equine Science) and Alexis Khoshaba (So., OF, Richmond, British Columbia/Sports and Rec Management).

Upper Iowa would knot it up at 2-2 in the second inning as Shelby Crist singles to drive in Lauren Marlinghaus. Whitney Williams scored on a wild pitch.

In the fifth, the Peacocks would add two more runs off Braatz as Marlinghaus singled to drive in Jacqueline Flood. Williams then singled to drive in Erica Kirgan.

The Peacocks' Flood, pitched seven innings, giving up just two earned runs on three hits in the win.

Minnesota Crookston had three hits on the game as Khoshaba, Beatty and Timmins got on base.

Upper Iowa was led by Marlinghaus, who was 2-of-2 with one RBI and one run scored, while Williams was 2-of-2 with one RBI and one run scored.

In game two, Paige Schaust (Sr., P/OF, Delano, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) got the ball and had one of her toughest starts of the season. Schaust pitched three innings, giving up seven earned runs on 13 hits.

The win for game two for Upper Iowa went to Brooke Redmond, who got the win after going four innings and giving up just one earned run on one hit.

Khoshaba and Schaust would account for Minnesota Crookston's hits.

Upper Iowa was led by Kirgan, who went 3-of-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored. In addition, Kayla Bergman, was 2-of-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.

The Golden Eagles will finish out the 2014 season against No. 20 Winona State University at 12 and 2 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
