Box Score 2 SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston struggled Saturday as they fell to Augustana College 10-0 and 13-0 in a doubleheader at Karras Park Home of Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-17 (0-6 NSIC) with the pair of losses. Augustana is 15-7 (5-1 NSIC) on the 2014 season.
Minnesota Crookston fell 10-0 in seven innings against the Vikings in game one. The game was close early on with neither team scoring until Augustana broke the lid with three runs in the third inning and four in the fourth.
The Golden Eagle start went to
Richie Navratil (Sr., P, Blansko, Czech Republic/Sports and Rec Management), who went five innings, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits. Navratil would suffer the loss for Minnesota Crookston.
The Augustana win went to Kye Winter, who went seven innings, pitching a shutout and allowing just two hits with eight strikeouts. Winter picked up his third win of the year in the Augustana victory.
Augustana opened the scoring in the third after strong pitching from Navratil in the first two frames. With two outs, Marcus O'Neill would single to drive in Brian Duxbury, who was hit by a pitch to open the inning. A Tony Viger triple would drive in O'Neill to make it 2-0. The final run of the inning would cross as Alex Fink doubled to right center to palte Viger to make it 3-0.
Augustana would add five more runs off of Navratil before
Ryan Paasch (Sr., P, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) came in to relieve Navratil in the sixth, giving up two runs.
Fink would lead the Vikings, going 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI. In addition, O'Neill was 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI's, while Jake Petersen was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Golden Eagles would struggle to get their bats going with just two hits.
Ryan Haggstrom (So., C/1B/P, Apple Valley, Minn./Accounting) and
Travis Magdzas (Jr., OF, Duluth, Minn./Criminal Justice) accounted for the hits for UMC.
In game two,
Jon Mittag (Sr., P, Glenville, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) went three innings, giving up nine earned runs on 12 hits. Mittag would suffer the loss for UMC.
The win for Augustana went to Bennett Johnson, who pitched six innings of shutout baseball, giving up no runs on five hits.
Augustana would start the scoring off in the first with a run as O'Neill scored on a Fink groundout.
The Vikings would explode for five runs in the second. After a leadoff double from Winter, T.J. Davis would single to drive in Winter to make it 2-0. An O'Neill single with two outs would drive in Zach Dibble and Davis to make it 4-0. A double from Viger would drive in O'Neill to make it 5-0.A single for Fink would drive in Viger.
Augustana would add three more runs off Mittag in the third.
Thane Larson (Sr., P, Grantsburg, Wis./Natural Resources) would come on in relief in the fourth and would allow four more runs.
Augustana was led by Viger, who was 4-for-4 with three runs cored and one RBI. Fink was 2-for-4 with three RBI's and one run scored.
The Golden Eagles had hits from
Patrick Higgins (Fr., OF, Eagan, Minn./Criminal Justice), Haggstrom, Robbie Smothers (Jr., 3B, Waconia, Minn.),
Colton Haight (Sr., C, Buffalo, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) and
Matt Korte (Sr., 3B/P, St. Cloud, Minn./Accounting).
The Golden Eagles will wrap up their series against the Vikings at 12 and 2 p.m. Sun., March 30.
