BALTIMORE, Md. - Former University of Minnesota Crookston baseball player Jake Dykhoff, who competed for the Golden Eagles from 2021-23, had his contract transferred from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association to the Baltimore Orioles organization of Major League Baseball.
When Dykhoff suits up for a Baltimore Orioles minor league affiliate, he will become the third former Golden Eagle to accomplish the feat. He joins Zach Seipel, who was drafted by the Atlanta Braves and played three seasons in their organization, and Paul Krebs, who spent the 2011 season in the Kansas City Royals organization.
Dykhoff has spent parts of four seasons with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association, in independent minor league baseball. Dykhoff went 4-4 in 14 starts in 2023 with a 5.60 ERA in 70.2 innings pitched. In 2024, he moved to a relief role and posted a 5-3 mark with a 2.21 ERA in 57 innings pitched with one save and 42 games played. He had a breakout season for the RedHawks in 2025, posting an 11-4 mark in 27 games and 10 starts in 93.2 innings pitched. He struck out 81, and walked just 12 with an impressive 1.63 ERA. He was a postseason All Star in the American Association in 2025, and was the league's Pitcher of the Year. He is the only qualified RedHawks pitcher with an ERA under two since the team joined the American Association in 2011. Dykhoff made one start in 2026 for the RedHawks, tossing six innings and striking out 11 against the Cleburne Railroaders.
Dykhoff also spent time with the Canberra Cavalry of the Australian Baseball League, and Caneros de Los Mochis of the Mexican Pacific Winter League.
Dykhoff earned All-NSIC First Team in 2023. He was an All-NSIC Second Team pick in 2021. He was a D2CCA and NCBWA Second Team All-Region pick in 2023 for the Golden Eagles. He finished his career with a 19-11 mark and a 3.50 ERA in 208.1 innings pitched with 14 complete games, four shutouts, two saves, 272 strikeouts and 50 walks. He holds school records for complete games, shutouts, strikeouts, strikeout to walk ratio, and WHIP.
He was teammates with the RedHawks with former Golden Eagle teammate Jake Hjelle, who is in his third season of professional baseball after time with the RedHawks, the Ottawa Titans, and the Boise Hawks. Former Golden Eagle Conner Richardson is also in the American Association with the Cleburne Railroaders. He is in his fourth season of professional baseball after also playing for the RedHawks, Lake Erie Crushers, and Oakland Ballers. Will Zimmerman is in his fifth season of professional baseball. He is currently playing for the Sussex County Miners of the Frontier League. He also played for the RedHawks in 2021.
