Golden Eagles Add Win Over Saint Michael’s; Have Gone 1-4 in Last Five Games in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 CLERMONT, Fla. - The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team has gone 1-4 in last five games in Clermont, Fla. during their Spring Break trip highlighted by a 5-2 win over Saint Michael's College Wed., March 19. The Golden Eagles are now 2-7 on their trip in which the Golden Eagles are playing 13 games in eight days to open up the 2014 season.

Last Sunday, UMC played their second game of the season against Ursuline College out of Pepper Pike, Ohio and then playing Merrimack College out of North Andover, Mass.

Bailey Braatz (Fr., P, Buffalo, Minn./Communications) got the start against Ursuline and would go five innings, giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits in the 10-5 loss to the Arrows.

The win for Ursuline went to Dagmar Smith, who came on in relief of Sarah Maxwell. Smith went four innings, giving up four earned runs on nine hits.

Minnesota Crookston was led on the game by Ashley Manusos (Sr., OF, Spring Grove, Ill./Sports and Rec Management), who went 3-of-5 with two runs scored from her leadoff spot. Foley was 3-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored.

Ursuline looked to Alison Porter, who was 3-for-3 with four RBI's and Smith, who was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI's.

In game two, Merrimack would get the 9-0 win over the Golden Eagles.

UMC was in the game early on as they held a 5-3 lead going into the top of the fifth inning after an explosive fourth inning for the Golden Eagles. Minnesota Crookston started off the four-run inning as Kaylin Beatty (So., UT, Andover, Minn./Equine Science) hit a double to plate. Alexis Khoshaba (So., OF, Richmond, British Columbia/Sports and Rec Management) would then come through in the clutch with another double to plate Beatty to make it 2-0. An Allison Foley (So., SS, Lockport, Ill./Accounting) single would score Khoshaba. The fourth run of the inning would scorss as Josee Plante (Jr., 3B, Manitou, Manitoba/Health Science) came through with a single to score Foley.

Seven runs for the Arrows in the fifth and sixth innings would guide Ursuline to the win. Schaust got the start for UMC and would go six innings, giving up nine earned runs on 10 hits in the loss.

The Warriors' win was gained by Alexis Perry, who went six innings, pitching a shutout with just two hits allowed and five strikeouts.

The Golden Eagles got hits from Khoshaba and Schaust on the game. Merrimack looked to Jessica Fugazzotto, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored and Keaira Monet Perry, who was 2-for-3 with one run scored and three RBI's.

After an off day on Monday where the Golden Eagles went to Clearwater, Fla., UMC got back at it on Tuesday with a game against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) rival University of Sioux Falls. They had a second game scheduled against Indiana Tech University, but that game was cancelled as all teams battled storms in the Clermont, Fla. area Tuesday.

UMC fell 11-3 to Sioux Falls after giving up eight runs in the first two innings to the Cougars.

Amanda Walters would get the win after going two innings and giing up just one earned run on one hit for Sioux Falls. The loss went to freshman Braatz, who went two innings giving up eight earned runs and four hits with five walks given up.

The Golden Eagles were led against USF by Plante, who was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sioux Falls looked to Haley Keiser, who was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI and Bailey Bouman, who was 1-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored.

Minnesota Crookston battled the University of West Chester out of West Chester, Pa. Wednesday, marking the second team the Golden Eagle softball team and baseball teams have both taken on during their Spring Break trips.

The Golden Eagles fell 9-0 to the Golden Rams. West Chester's Micaela McSpadden got the win after pitching a complete-game three-hit shutout over UMC. Cateline Fafard (Sr., P/1B, Dauphin, Manitoba/Elementary Education) got the loss for UMC in the start after going 6.1 innings and giving up six earned runs on 14 hits.

Minnesota Crookston had hits from Manusos, Beatty and Plante. West Chester was paced by Kim Murl, who was 2-for-2 with two RBI's, Kim Begley, who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Jessica Norris, who was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's.

The Golden Eagles wrapped up their Wednesday with a big 5-2 win over Saint Michael's College, their second win of their trip. The win was earned by Schaust, who went four innings, shutting out Saint Michael's with just three hits given up.

The loss for the Purple Knights went to Erlandson, who went 5.2 innings and gave up three earned runs on 10 hits.

The Golden Eagles would be led by a three-run fourth inning in which they got to Jane Erlandson. Plante and Foley would both come across on errors by the Purple Knights. Braatz would score as Manusos hit a sacrifice fly to right field. UMC would add two more runs in the sixth.

Minnesota Crookston was paced by Foley, who was 3-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored and Plante, who was 3-for-4 with one run scored.

Saint Michael's was led by Danielle DelGreco, who was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Bethany Falls, who was 2-for-2 with one RBI.

The Golden Eagles wrap up their Florida trip with games against Caldwell College and University of New Haven Thursday and Midland University and University of Northwestern Ohio Friday.
