CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota volleyball team will head to take on St. Cloud State University in a mid-week match Tues., Oct. 14 in St. Cloud, Minn. The Golden Eagles will look to snap a three-match losing streak as they take on the Huskies. UMC took on St. Cloud State Sept. 13 at the Northern State Invitational in Aberdeen, S.D. and lost 3-0. UMC is 8-10 (2-7 NSIC) on the 2014 season, while St. Cloud State is 7-11 (1-9 NSIC).
The Golden Eagles continue to be led by the play of 2013 All-NSIC First Team pick
Brittany Looker (Sr., OH, Rochester, Minn./Health Science), who continues to lead the NSIC with 4.48 kills per set. Looker is also averaging 2.65 digs per set. The senior is one dig away from 1,000 digs which would make her the third player in school history, along with Kendra Corneliusen and Joan Ebnet, to achieve 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
In addition to Looker,
Kassi Green (R-Fr., RS, Anoka, Minn./Elementary Education) comes in averaging 1.85 kills per set, while
Stephanie Pearson (Jr., OH, Frankfort, Ill./Accounting) is averaging 1.84 kills per set. UMC continues to use two setters with
Sierra Trost (So., S, Ham Lake, Minn./Health Science) averaging 8.70 assists per set.
Defensively,
Mary Mikutowski (Sr., Lib., Stillwater, Minn./Health Science) leads the way with 3.79 digs per set, while Pearson is averaging 2.83 digs per set and Trost is averaging 2.55 digs per set. On the block,
Erin Schwarz (So., MH, Eden Prairie, Minn./Undecided) leads the way with 0.94 blocks per set.
St. Cloud State has lost their last eight matches dating back to a Sept. 19 win over University of Sioux Falls. The Huskies are currently being led by Assistant Coach Marci Taumalolo after Michelle Blaeser was placed on leave while the program is reviewed.
The Huskies have a very balanced attack led by Shannon Klink's 2.88 kills per set. Kaitlin Doughty comes in averaging 2.75 kills per set, while Kellan Flynn is averaging 2.53 kills per set. Macy Weller comes in averaging 2.52 kills per set and Sophie Jaskulske is averaging 2.31 kills per set.
At setter, Erin Ohlemann leads the way with 10.21 assists per set. Defensively, libero Brianne Stamer leads the way with 5.15 digs per set, while Flynn leads the block with 0.78 blocks per set.
