(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston Head Women's Softball Coach Mitch Bakken announced today the signing of Gina Delisa from College Station, Texas to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles during the 2011-12 season.
Delisa is a 5-7, catcher from A & M Consolidated High School in District 12-5A of the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL). She was a two-year letterwinner at Marana High School in Marana, Ariz. and is a two-year letterwinner at A & M Consolidated High School. She was named to the Colorado Sparkler All-Star team, the 2007 TCS World Series All-Tournament team and All-District Second team at A & M Consolidated. In the summer Delisa plays club softball for the Texas Shockwave. This season she reached base in 25 of 27 plate appearances. She reached 17 consecutive times on nine hits and eight walks before voluntarily ending the streak with a successful sacrifice bunt. Off the field Delisa is a member of the International Thespian Society.
“Gina is an outstanding catcher and first baseman as well as a very sound hitter,” says coach Bakken. “She is currently batting in the mid .400's and after her consecutive on base streak she has an on base percentage in the high .500's. Gina will be looked upon to come in and help immediately next season and I think she has the attitude, ability and drive to do that,” adds Bakken.
Delisa plans to major in communication at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Monica and Vincent Delisa. Her sister Marlina Delisa plays softball for NCAA Division I East Tennessee State.
