SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston men's cross country team finished 12th of 33 collegiate teams in the 5K at the Augustana University Twilight to open the season Friday, September 4 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Golden Eagles finished 12th of 25 teams last season as they tied their best-ever finish at the Augie Twilight. Minnesota Crookston finished fourth of 10 NSIC teams behind only Augustana University, Minnesota State University, and University of Jamestown. The Golden Eagles set a record for most teams defeated in a race with 21. The race was moved to a 5K after being a four-mile race in previous seasons.
The Golden Eagles were led by Kohen Holcomb (So., Marshall, Minn.), who paced the squad with a 47th place-finish and a time of 15:44.6. Holcomb had the 14th-best time of a NSIC runner. The finish was a personal record for Holcomb.
Aaden Nauman (Jr., Windom, Minn.) notched a 79th-place finish clocking in at 16:05.9. Martin Kuac (Fr., Surrey, British Columbia) clocked in at 16:29.0 in his first collegiate race. Taylor Johnson (Sr., Lake Park, Minn.) finished with a time of 16:45.9. Carter Flatau (So., Perham, Minn.) made his Minnesota Crookston cross country debut, finishing in 16:50.1. Riley Hanson (5th, Farmington, Minn.) posted a time of 17:08.2. Reid Wokasch (Fr., Perham, Minn.) made his collegiate debut clocking in at 17:17.5. Peter Newark (Fr., Battle Lake, Minn.) posted a time of 17:17.6 in his first collegiate run. Jonathan Roth (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) notched a time of 17:36.4.
South Dakota State University was the team champion Friday. Isaac Ochoa of the University of South Dakota was the individual champion.
Minnesota Crookston returns to action Friday, September 18 at the Roy Griak Invitational at the Fort Snelling Golf Course.
