Jamestown, N.D. -- For the second time in 10 matches, Minnesota Crookston volleyball met up with conference foe Jamestown, this time at the Harold Newman Center in Jamestown.

The Jimmies controlled the first two sets and held off the Golden Eagles in the third set to sweep the Golden Eagles on Saturday.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 2-8 (0-2 NSIC).

Set One

It would be all Jimmies early on, as they would lead 4-0, before a service error would get the Golden Eagles on the board.

UJ would eventually stretch their lead to 7-1, forcing a Golden Eagle timeout.

Minnesota Crookston would score the next two out of the timeout, helped by a solo block from Madison Carsten (Sr., OH, Wadena, Minn.).

Minnesota Crookston could not get going offensively in the first set, hitting in the negatives and falling in the first set.

Set Two

Set two would see the Jimmies score the first two points of the set, but Emma Malek (Sr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) would get the Golden Eagles on the board with a kill, her fourth of the match up to that point.

The Golden Eagles would need a timeout trailing 6-1, but a Carsten kill and an Adrienne Venditto (So., DS, Bovey, Minn.) service ace would get the Golden Eagles within three at 6-3.

UJ would then score seven in a row to run away with the set and take their largest lead of the set at 13-3.

UJ would win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three

Minnesota Crookston would get off to a better start after a pair of slow starts. 

Carsten would collect her sixth kill of the match and tie the set up at four.

Minnesota Crookston would later make it a two point deficit at 10-8 following a Brooklyn Gysbers (Fr., OH, White Bear Lake, Minn.) kill.

UJ would stretch the lead up to 15-8, but back-to-back points from the Golden Eagles would make at 15-10.

Trailing by eight at 21-13, Minnesota Crookston would mount a run and score five straight, using the arm of Gysbers to get back within three at 21-18.

Minnesota Crookston would fall in the set by six.

Individual Stats

The Golden Eagles were balanced offensively, led by Carsten and Gysbers, who each had seven kills. Malek finished with six, while Bella Peters (Fr., MH, Altona, Minn.) finished with a career-high five.

Minnesota Crookston finished with 14 kills in the third set, nearly matching their first two sets combined.

FINALLY! It's the home opener for Minnesota Crookston on Friday, when they welcome The University of Mary at 6 PM. The Golden Eagles will wear black uniforms and are asking all fans to wear black!
