Crookston, Minn. -- The University of Mary spoiled the home opener for Minnesota Crookston volleyball, sweeping Minnesota Crookston in straight sets (21-25, 21-25, 15-25).

Minnesota Crookston falls to 2-9 (0-3 NSIC).

Set One

The first set would prove to be tight early on, as the set would see six ties through the first 12 sets.

Madison Carsten (Sr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) would collect a kill to give the Golden Eagles a 10-8 lead.

Making her season debut, Carizma Muth (Sr., OH, Randolph, Wis.) would collect a kill to make it 17-15.

The Golden Eagles would lead 19-17 on a block from Emma Malek (Sr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) and Lexi Scharold (Sr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.), but from there, it would be all Marauders, who would win the first set by four.

Set Two

The Golden Eagles would use kills from Scharold, Muth and Carsten for an early 4-0 lead, but the Marauders would slowly start to chip away.

The Golden Eagles would see their lead jump to 7-4, but the Marauders would go on a 4-0 run and take an 8-7 lead.

UMary would take a 19-15 lead, but Brook Orazem (So., S, Onamia, Minn.) would go on a 5-0 service run to regain a one point lead.

Following a Marauder timeout, the Marauders would score six of the sets' next seven points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three

Set three would see the Marauders jump out to an early lead and never give it back, as they would win the final set by 10 and sweep the match.

Individual Stats

Carsten continued her outstanding run against the Marauders in her career, finishing with 14 kills and 13 digs on the night, her third double-double of the season. Muth finished with six kills in her first match of the season and added seven digs.

Scharold finished with five kills on 12 total attacks.

Minnesota Crookston hit .189 in the match, compared to .340 for the Marauders.

Minnesota Crookston will be back at home tomorrow afternoon when they host the Minot State Beavers for a 2 P.M., first serve.
