Aberdeen, S.D. -- It was the conference opener for Minnesota Crookston volleyball on Friday night, as they traveled to Wachs Arena for a date with the Northern State Wolves, who came into the match with a 5-3 record.

 

The match would go the way of the Wolves, who would sweep Minnesota Crookston in their home opener.

 

Set One

Minnesota Crookston would get off to a great start, starting with an Ellery Ehresmann (So., S, Albany, Minn.) service ace and bookended by a floor-denting kill from Lexi Scharold (Jr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) for a 3-0 lead.

 

NSU would answer quickly and take a 9-5 lead, forcing a Golden Eagle timeout.

 

Following the timeout, Madison Carsten (Sr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) would get the Golden Eagles back within two following a kill and a block, but NSU would score six in a row to take a 15-7 lead.

 

Trailing, 17-9, Hannah Nesdahl (Fr., DS/Lib., Sioux Falls, S.D.), playing on her 19th birthday, would go on a service run and get the Golden Eagles back within four at 17-13.

 

Minnesota Crookston would get back within three following a bad set by the Wolves, but NSU would stretch the lead back up to five once again, forcing the final timeout of the set for the Golden Eagles.

 

NSU would win the first set by seven.

 

Set Two

Minnesota Crookston would score the first point again, following a Scharold kill.

 

The Golden Eagles would trail 8-2, but a cross-court shot from Carsten would end the run and make it 8-3.

 

Minnesota Crookston looked to get a kill from Scharold to make it 10-5 in favor of NSU, but after a 10 or so minute delay, Minnesota Crookston would be out of rotation and trail 11-4. NSU would force a timeout leading by 11 at 15-4.

 

Minnesota Crookston would get as close as nine late in the set, but NSU would win the second set by 11.

 

Set Three

NSU would jump out to a fast 6-1 lead, but Minnesota Crookston would fight their way back into the set and tie it following a Ehresmann service ace.

 

From that point on, it would be all NSU, as they would win the set and the match.

Stats

There were some issues with the live stats with Northern State. We will try to get stats as soon as possible.

Minnesota Crookston is back on the road tomorrow afternoon for a tilt with Jamestown. First serve is set for 2 P.M.
