Scrappy Golden Eagles Fight Hard in Loss to No. 2 Wayne State College

Crookston, Minn. -- Minnesota Crookston volleyball gave the number two team in the nation everything they could want, but Wayne State College swept the Golden Eagles in NSIC play on Saturday (19-25, 18-25, 15-25).

Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-20 (1-14 NSIC).

Set One

WSC would jump out to a 4-2 lead, but a kill from Bella Peters (Fr., MH, Altona, Manitoba) would help the Golden Eagles knot things up at four.

Later in the set, WSC would take an 8-6 lead, but the Golden Eagles would score five straight points with the help of Ellery Ehresmann (Fr., S, Albany, Minn.) and back-to-back service aces.

The 11-8 lead would force a timeout from WSC.

Ehresmann would later collect a kill on a dump and Madison Carsten (Sr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) would finish off a kill to give Minnesota Crookston a 15-14 lead.

WSC would score two straight and make it 17-16, but a massive swing from Brooklyn Gysbers (Fr., OH, White Bear Lake, Minn.) would make it 17 all.

The Wildcats would make it 20-17, but two straight by the Golden Eagles, capped off by a Peters kill would get the Golden Eagles back within one.

WSC would end the set with five in a row to win the opening set by six.

Set Two

WSC would score two in a row, but a massive block from Peters and Lexi Scharold (Jr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) would help tie the score at two.

WSC would extend their lead to 6-2, but two straight kills from Carsten would make it 6-4.

WSC would take a 22-12 lead late in the set, but Hannah Nesdahl (Fr., DS, Sioux Falls, S.D.) would go on a service run to make it 22-16.

Minnesota Crookston would lose the middle set by seven.

Set Three

The third set would see WSC score four straight early on, but a service error and a kill by Carsten would give the Golden Eagles a deficit of just two.

Wayne State would pull away for the three set victory.

Carsten had a phenomenal day, finishing with 12 kills on 28 total attacks and finished with eight digs. Carsten hit .321 on the day.
