LITCHFIELD PARK, ARIZ. - The University of Minnesota Crookton women's golf team is in seventh of 10 teams after the first round at the SMSU Challenge at Wigwam Resort - Blue in Litchfield Park, Ariz. The Golden Eagles are competing in the second of two tournaments hosted in Arizona by Southwest Minnesota State University.
The Golden Eagles shot a team score of 325 Thursday. They had rounds of 320 and 323 at the SMSU Spring Invite Monday and Tuesday at Wigwam Resort. Minnesota Crookston is 16 strokes ahead of Bemidji State, 20 strokes in front of Southwest Minnesota State, and 24 strokes ahead of MSU Moorhead. They are currently trailing Chadron State by one stroke for sixth place, and Fort Hays State and Rockhurst by two strokes.
Anaka Lysne (Sr., Wahpeton, N.D.) is tied for second after carding an opening round 73 Thursday. Lysne's round tied for fifth all-time at Minnesota Crookston. Emma Pierson (Fr., Cherry Valley, Ill.) is in 11th after carding a nine-over-par 79. Ainsley McLain (Jr., Grafton, N.D.) shot an 86 Thursday. Libby Dulmage (Jr., Leeds, N.D.) posted an 87. Lauren Bowyer (Sr., Ivanhoe, N.D.) shot a 92, while Victoria Olson (So., Cook, Minn.) competed as an individual Thursday.
Payton Panzeri of Colorado Mesa is in the lead after shooting 71. Lysne and Arantza Zepeda of Rockhurst are two strokes back in a tie for second. Colorado Mesa is in the team lead after round one.
The Golden Eagles complete the SMSU Challenge Friday, March 13.
