FARGO, N.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 5-2 to Gustavus Adolphus College Sunday, February 8 at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D. The Gusties are the 22nd ranked team in NCAA Division III.
Minnesota Crookston dropped to 2-2 with the loss, while Gustavus Adolphus improved to 7-2 with the win.
The Golden Eagles fell in all three doubles matches, as the Gusties earned the doubles point.
Daniela de Lucas Rivera (Jr., Madrid, Spain) and
Terez Drasilova (Fr., Naples, Fla.) fell 6-3 to Ella De Young and Allison Szalay. At No. 2 doubles,
Asli Oktay (So., Istanbul, Turkey) and
Nadia Cases Mundet (Jr., Barcelona, Spain) fell 6-4 to Pavla Yakimova and Jemima Vitou. At the No. 3 spot,
Abril Manas Hernandez (So., Barcelona, Spain) and
Katie VanPelt (So., Austin, Minn.) were defeated 6-3 by Katie Thompson and Melat Tabara.
In singles, DeYoung defeated de Lucas Rivera, 6-3, 6-1. At the No. 2 spot, Oktay picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Szalay. At No. 3 singles, Cases Mundet upended Yakimova, 7-6, 6-4. Gustavus Adolphus picked up the point at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, Vitou defated Manas Hernandez, 6-3, 6-1. At the No. 6 slot, Ashley Stroebel upended
Abby VanPelt, 6-1, 6-0.
The Golden Eagles trek to face Winona State University Friday, February 13 at 6 p.m., in Winona, Minn.
