Grand Forks, N.D. – Minnesota Crookston tennis was back at home to take on perennial power Augustana for a Friday matinee at the Choice Health and Fitness Center in Grand Forks.
Augustana took control early, winning the doubles portion and earning the point.
In the doubles, Daniela de Lucas Rivera (Jr., Madrid, Spain) and Abril Manas Hernandez (So., Barcelona, Spain) fell in number one doubles, 6-0. In the number three doubles match, Kavya Singh (Sr., Agra, India) and Nadia Cases Mundet (Jr., Barcelona, Spain) fell 6-0. The number two doubles on the middle court would be an outstanding match, as Asli Oktay (So., Istanbul, Turkey) and Ariadna Solis Guals (Jr., Santpedor, Spain) would take an early 3-2 lead. That match would be back-and-forth, with Oktay and Solis Guals taking a 5-4 lead.
The Vikings would fight back and take a 6-5 lead in the marathon doubles match and win that, 7-5.
The singles portion would be controlled by the Vikings. At the number one singles, de Lucas Rivera and Mia Garcia of the Vikings would have a really opening set, as Garcia would lead 4-3, early on in that back-and-forth start.
Augustana would win the match, 7-0.
Minnesota Crookston will close out the weekend tomorrow, when they welcome in Sioux Falls for a 4:30 PM start time.
