WINONA, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team fell 6-1 to Minnesota State University Saturday, February 14 in Winona, Minn.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 3-3 (1-1 NSIC) with Saturday's loss to Minnesota State. The Mavericks start the season with a 1-0 (1-0 NSIC) mark with the win. The Mavericks have won 14-straight matches with the Golden Eagles.
Minnesota Crookston lost the doubles point, but earned a doubles win at No.3 as Kavya Singh (Sr., Agra, India) and Nadia Cases Mundet (Jr., Barcelona, Spain) earned a 6-0 win over Taina Cordeiro and Elizabeth Dabiza. Singh and Cases Mundet improved to 3-0 in doubles. At No. 1 doubles, Daniela de Lucas Rivera (Jr., Madrid, Spain) and Abril Hernandez Manas (So., Barcelona, Spain) fell 6-2 to Julia Gurholt and McKenna DeMarce to fall to 0-2 this season. At No. 2 doubles, Asli Oktay (So., Istanbul, Turkey) and Ariadna Solis Guals (Jr., Santpedor, Spain) fell to Alma Vaquez and Lucie Sliskova, 6-2. They fell to 2-1 in doubles.
In singles, de Lucas Rivera picked up a victory in three sets over Gurholt, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 to improve to 2-3 at the No. 1 slot. At No. 2 singles, Oktay fell to DeMarce, dropping to 2-2. At No. 3 singles, Cases Mundet went to three sets but was defeated 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 by Vazquez, falling to 4-1 with her first loss of the season. At the No. 4 slot, Solis Guals fell to Sliskova. At the No. 5 spot, Hernandez Manas was defeated 6-3, 6-1 by Amanda Blanco-Epple to fall to 2-2 this season. At the No. 6 slot, Singh fell in three to Cordeiro, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5, and drop to 3-1 in singles.
Minnesota Crookston takes on Augustana University in Grand Forks, N.D., Friday, February 20 at 2 p.m.
