Crookston, Minn. - The Golden Eagles are back following their 35 day break. In town this weekend is the University of Jamestown, who the Golden Eagles have a lot of experience playing against. This will be one of just two home weekends remaining for the Golden Eagles, with just four weekends remaining before Tournaments begin, which will start with the WCCHA Tournament in the beginning of February. But, that is quite a ways from this weekend, and the Golden Eagles have to handle some business before they start thinking about the tournaments.
The Golden Eagles and Jimmies have gone toe-to-toe 14 times in program history, with the Golden Eagles ahead in that series with a 9-5-0 record. The Golden Eagles have scored 69 goals for an average of 4.93 per game. Meanwhile, the Jimmies have scored 52 goals for 3.71 goals per game. These two teams rarely have a low scoring game when going against each other, so expect a high scoring tilt this weekend. The lowest scoring game between these two programs was back in October of 2022, a game in which the Golden Eagles won 3-2 with a goal from current alternate captain Dylan Neubauer (5th, D, Grand Forks, N.D.) which was the game's first goal.
The Golden Eagles Player to Watch this weekend is Mason Romfo (So., F, Langdon, N.D.) who lit up the scoreboard last year against the Jimmies in the first two games of his career. Game one against the Jimmies, Romfo recorded two goals and an assist for three points, in the second game he tallied his first career hat trick. This season, Romfo is leading the team in goals with 15 and has added 13 assists for 28 points. Romfo has points in five straight games, and will look to pick up right where he left off when the Golden Eagles return.
Game one between the Golden Eagles will be Saturday, January 10th with puck drop set for 5 p.m. Sunday's game will be at 12 p.m.
